inter hurling championship

Post by stand back »

Ballyskenagh/killavilla and St.rynaghs are dominating the inter league. The rest of the teams
Are cannon fodder for them. Both are 5/5 in the league with huge average scores put up. Shinrone and coolderry are playing alright. For the championship BK can only get stronger, whereas the other contenders have senior first teams.

Offaly fixtures are being prolonged unnecessarily again. Or maybe the masters fixture is just out of date. Either way its not great planning and communication. The intermediate championship is scheduled to finish on october the 20th. The quarter finals are next weekend. That means there are only two games of hurling in the 8 weeks following the quarter finals.

Coincidentally the inter hurling final is on the same day as the offaly intermediate representative is playing in the first round of the leinster junior championships. It's going to have to be changed.
http://www.leinstergaa.ie/aib-leinster- ... .2864.html the link shown is the leinster junior competition, it is much easier to follow and is something offaly fixtures committee should aspire to.

This is how it should be planned; all quarterfinals this weekend. all semifinals the weekend after all ireland hurling final, and the intermediate final on october 5th. Giving the winners two weeks to prepare for the first round of the leinster competition. after next weekend the fixtures committee should tell us the weekends that the semi/finals and finals are on.

BTW i predict BK, Ballinamere, Banagher and Shamrocks to reach semi's. The top of table division 2 league clash is on tuesday 27th of august between bK and banagher. BK have gained promotion from this league as the top four teams are BK banagher shinrone and coolderry. it would be nice for us to win it.

BK should account for Shinrone easily enough but a local derby could throw up a suprise if BK take anything for granted.
St.Rynahgs V KK is hard to call,i am going for KK to continue their run in all the adult championships this year but only just.
Ballinamere V Killurin any team that underestimates Killurin will get a major shock although id expect Ballinamere to get through after a tight tough game.
Carrig/Riverstown V Shamrocks Shamrocks have to be favourites to win this one,by how much will probably depend on the fitness of Derek Molloy.

Cant see anyone beating Ballyskenagh/Killavilla either in the championship or the division 2 league, but i am not too sure about your assumption that they are gauranteed promotion because none of the other teams can go up to division 1 next year,as far as I know BK would have to win division 2 to play in division 1 next year.

puzzled 4/4 for your predictions. Focus for next weekend is now on the league semifinal where we play coolderry next sat in birr at 3pm.

In the last league game we had a tough-tough game, against rynaghs in banagher which we won by a point. Even though the result didn't matter too much there was fierce intensity and determination by both teams to win. We won by the skin of our teeth. Ryanghs and Shinrone are in the other league semi final.

Final league standings; Bk 9 wins out of 9, shinrone and rynaghs 7 wins from 9 games and coolderry 5wins from 9 games.

Down to the last 4 and its looking like Skenach/Villa should take the title. They have alot of players with alot of senior hurling experience. Dont forget both these clubs played senior not so long ago. If you are to take 6 or 7 good hurlers from the two clubs and put them together, you are looking at a strong team.

I would expect Ballinamere/Durrow will win the other semi. Shamrocks generally have had the better of them in any meeting but this is one of the weakest Shamrocks teams in over a decade. They were very poor against Carrig and riverstown and struggled through the group games with a very poor result losing to killurin.

KK were a team that pushed Lusmagh very close last year and I had expected them to be a contender. Their early poor form suprised me but they seem to have hit some form and will be a big test for B/K. The big thing of whether to use some of their junior hurlers now could be the difference between winning and losing a tight game. I still expect B/K to get through this test and win the final.

Saturday 14th – IHC semi-finals (double header at O’Connor Park)
Ballinamere v Shamrocks at 4pm,
Ballyskenagh-Killavilla v Kilcormac-Killoughey at 5.30pm

Another win for bk in the league semifinal. Bk have won 15/15 games but we've won nothing important.

To put it into perspective there are roughly 18km between roscrea and birr. To win both the league and championship we'll need to win 18/18. In distance terms we've 15km done on our road towards the final at st. brendans park in birr. We're now at birr airfield approaching the finishing straight This is the interesting full steam ahead part, la champs elysees.

What kk are doing is even more impressive with teams qualified for senior junior and intermediate semifinals. kk deserve to win at least one of those titles.

Has Derek Molloy resumed hurling yet or is the injury he sustained against Waterford still keeping him out of action?

The two teams that won deserved their wins. Shamrocks missed Derek Molly something shocking, Ballinamere were the better team. K/K looked very strong and I would tip K/K to win the final. Cillian Kiely was outstanding and took some great scores and tackled hard, Murray at corner forward was causing a lot of trouble in the first half , Cathal Mahon at full back was solid and overall K/K were the better team and a great save from Seamus McDonald at the end saw K/K safely into the final. Il go for K/K 2-16 Ballinamere 1-12 for the final.

KK were very impressive today. If they play anything like this in the final they will win by 10 points +.

Ballinamere/Durrow the better team in the other semi. The loss of Molloy, Cummins, and Minnock through injury left shamrocks depleted and they were very poor.

KK should win the final. It would probably be nice to see Ballinamere/Durrow win it but they will have to improve a lot.

Huge congrats to all concerned with Ballinamere the years of heartbreak finally came to an end on saturday with a well deserved win over KK and the right to call yourselves a senior hurling club has been well and truly earned by each and everyone of ye!
Perhaps ye can become the first Offaly team to win the Leinster Junior Championship.
Best of luck lads and well done!

Heartbreak isn’t the word for it puzzled.

Traditionally, the Durrow/Ballinamere divided along the lines of football and hurling but the usual amalgamation-related issues that, in fairness, are experienced by many clubs around the country surfaced over time with each club carrying its own share of baggage and issues.

The two clubs went through periods of uniting under the name of Durrow for football and Ballinamere for hurling and splitting into independent set-ups during the last three decades. For a period of time in the early noughties, both clubs competed in the intermediate hurling championship which at time seemed non-sensical when the players on both teams played together until u-21 grade yet neither club had the quality or the numbers to realistically aspire to be a senior hurling club.

Thankfully a lot of that has been put to bed. On Sunday you had 5 starters and two lads coming on from the Durrow of the parish which would be the right blend given the Ballinamere side is traditionally stronger on hurling.

A good few of the side would have been involved with the ‘Ballinamere Gaels’ side who won the u-21 A county final in 2011 so that was a major step in the right direction in terms of bringing belief to the set-up.

A few of the players the likes of Denis Magnier, Paddy Murphy, Gerry Spollen and Kevin Mealiffe are blossoming into solid hurlers and I would have thought merit a run for the country panel (whenever that happens!). It can only be good for the game in the county to have more northern teams competing at the SHC grade.

One way or the other, Ballinamere are in the SHC 2014 on merit. No more than KK, a side can great a great lift from getting the loosing monkey off their backs so the very best of luck to all involved.
