He was probably our top scorer, despite playing at midfield. James Mc Padden failed to retain his cornerback position on last year's minor team. A very small forward line has been selected with no great ball-winners. Surely there must be better under 21 footballers in the county. I heard a team called Shannon Gaels have reached the county under 21 semi-final. What area do they represent? Who have they on the panel?
No great ball winners...bernard allen is possibly the best man to get in front of a defender and take him on in the county at the moment  and no i can say from experience and knowledge of that age group thats a very good offaly team and the best in the county with exception from sullivan

@Sharp Eye, No good ball winners? Seriously? Are you ignoring Bernard Allen, the best ball winner in the county. Sometimes I wonder if people actually watch the games at all or just judge by a players size.

Perhaps he has quit/gone off the rails. There's a lot of talent in Clara, so its hard to get all the lads to keep playing throughout their careers.

Donie Ryan went over on his ankle on Friday night and was probably going to start if he was fit. The management have had these guys for the past 3 or 4 months so they are the only ones capable of a correct judgement.

Anton is listed as a sub because he is part of the panel and wont be togging out.

As for Shane Nally, it was nip and tuck with him and Shiel for the goals, nothing between them.

Noel Andrew is not in great form therefore his place goes to someone who has been playing well recently.

Offaly are a great price at 11/4 (almost 3/1)
I wasn't trying to question the management at all - I was just surprised since I thought that Donie was fit, that's all.

I wouldn't argue with the team at all but there's no way I could have 11/4 as value. I think this team is huge outsiders, 5/1 at least imo. If I wasn't betting against Offaly I'd be piling into the even money double with Lads, Meath and Westmeath both to win.

Wexford are a huge price as well, but that's neither here nor there.

Any team that goes to portlaoise and beat's laois bye 10 points in under 21 can't be to bad and there best
player Heslin missing. can't see offaly getting a win in mullingar westmeath have a game under their belt also
but they have a good man over them in Martin Murphy from Gracefield who has won county titles with clubs in laois.

Gavin Shiels plays in goal for Killeigh, and plays at midfield as well. He also lines out for the hurlers.
Is that Raheen's Paddy Rigney at no 14 tomorrow night?. he played for Offaly minors a few years ago.
Finally how do you get to Pairc Ciaran off the Athlone bypass?

Same exit as the new sports centre, I think that's the Ballymahon exit? One way or another if you turn for town from the Ballymahon exit you'll see it soon enough I think.

Thanks LS. That's a useful looking side for tomorrow night, could be the basis of a senior team.

That's disappointing. Looked like a reasonable team on paper but not having played a competitive match before is always a disadvantage.

We haven't progressed at this level in a number of years despite some reasonable minor teams recently
