Meant to get to this sooner, but can anyone confirm that John Leahy of K/K was installed as the Offaly Minor Hurling Manager on Thursday night at that, by now, infamous County Board meeting?
If true, this would be a good appointment. Firstly, he could be trusted to interact well with that age group - treating them with respect and fostering an enjoyment of the game. At minor level, the importance of this can not be overstated.
Secondly, he's a good coach with a keen understanding of the modern game. K/K, in a fit of pique, got rid of him much too soon and they've looked the worse for it since. Even if success is not achieved every year with every minor team (and there is no reason why it can't), then at the very least the players will move on to the U-21 and Senior grades better coached in the key skills required to be successful.
