Re: Hurling Fixtures Next Weekend
Cheers for the fixtures, SBM, as ever.
There’s one point of concern. The relegation matches are fixed for home venues, which I don’t have a problem with. I understand the practice (if not the rule, I’m not sure) is that the referees provide the umpires and the home club provide the linesmen.
Straightaway there’s a problem with the linesmen. Some referees (including 2 long-serving officials) do not bring their own umpires, instead borrowing four from the host club. The referee was probably the only neutral in Banagher last week and while there wasn’t a problem, that doesn’t mean there won’t be a problem in a match next week. Something that should be addressed beforehand and not left ‘till there’s a messy situation.
I was at a League match last year between Lusmagh & ’Rynagh’s on a dirty wet evening you wouldn’t put a dog out in. T’was too wet for umpires or linesmen so the match went ahead without linesmen while the 2 goalkeepers did umpire – and did it right too!
