Edenderry impose hefty suspensions

Published Date: 22 October 2008
By Staff Reporter
FOLLOWING an internal investigation, Edenderry GAA club has taken decisive action over the disgraceful scenes that forced the abandonment of their Minor Football semi-final against St Vincent's.
The club has suspended two unnamed members from club activities for 96 weeks while an individual not currently a member of the club has been disqualified from membership and has been barred from all club activities.

Some other members have received official warnings from the club with regard to their future conduct at games. Edenderry GAA club has also said that it 'will continue to assist the County Board with it's investigation'.

The official Coiste na nOg investigation into the incident is still ongoing. A meeting was held on Monday evening and it is expected that further meetings with the parties involved will take place during the week.

Fair dues to the Reds for not stalling on this one.

Well done Edenderry.
A couple of other clubs should take note.

Fair play is right. And fair play to Shamrocks again. Shamrocks made the hard call after the John Hurst incident and Edenderry did the right thing this time. It just goes to show that it takes one strong club/person to make an unpopular but right call and then things start moving in the right direction.

If only the club (I forget the amalgamation) who's supporter hit Michael Mahon did the same thing we would have avoided that whole strike altogether.

Once again fair play to Shamrocks and Edenderry, hopefully Offaly can set the standard that other counties will follow.

Edenderry have taken a stance.........but i only hope that when appeals are made that no changes are made to punishment handed out. A current senior player has got a 2yr ban because of what happened and it'll be interesting to see if this is upheld. :?:

If it's an internal club ban, I'm pretty sure the player in question would have nowhere to go. Even if he's not officially banned, the club just refuses to pick him for any matches - job done.

Just to add to the posters above - serious credit to Edenderry here. There isn't a club in Ireland that doesn't have one or two lúdramáns attached to it and there's nothing that can be done - except when they step out of line, as in this case. Edenderry have acted impeccably here and deserve recognition for doing so, as with the Shamrocks incident earlier.
Kevin Egan. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.
