Lusmagh

Nothin much to add to the above, only to say that Birr will give Leinster a good crack again this winter, with a possible all-ireland semi final against the Connacht champions in February. Lusmagh have a long way to come, and it was a huge step-up in class of opposition coming from the weak group. H...

Homecoming 1984

As the team wwere returning from Thurles in 1984, the homecoming was held in Birr. As far as I can remember, there wasn't a reception in Tullamore. As regards Bornacoola, surely Cunningham doesn't have to look outside his own native county for the smallest parish/ population to win a copunty title. ...

Hurling quarters

I'd expect Belmont to give Coolderry plenty to chew on. Clocker will do well on Joe Brady (who is not good in the air and won't meet any other centre half forwards who are stronger than him). The Egans are lively and can score if given a supply, and the Colderry full back line isn't the hottest. How...

Why?

Why do we always leak goals to Kilkenny? Early goals, late goals, goals just before half time. We dont leak goals to anyone else in huge numbers. Wexford, Waterford, Clare, Tipperary. Even in 1999, after leaking 5 goals to Kilkenny, we held Cork goalless. Can anyone think who was the last team to sc...

O'Connor Park

Well they didn't ezactly pay for the stand with the attendance Saturday evening. Thats the second time Tullamore have had a home match this year - and the second one they've lost ! O'Connor Park is in Tullamore town, in Tullamore parish. That isn't a neutral venue, no matter how you look at it. Most...

Next year

An interesting aside to Westmeath's Ring Cup success. This year, the draw for the qualifiers was arranged so no more than 2 from any one province would be placed in the one group. Next year, there will be 4 Leinster teams in the draw. This means that there will be 2 Leinster teams in each group, mea...

Lusmagh

This obviously means the Lusmagh Shamrocks tie in the SHC has been deferred due to Shamrock's replay in the fupple. Murphy's law for the fixtures committee. Two dual clubs involved in fupple replays. Lusmagh were let off the hook against Belmont. Wonder if the hurl he scored the wining goal with was...

Antrim

Wey hey. Guess this means we're facing Kilkenny again next year. Seriously though, what a relief. Although it does beg the question "as long as this system is in use are we going to face relegation play-off's every year?" It seems to me the only way to avoid this is for KK and WX to be dra...

Pride restored

Why is it that Wexford can raise their game for Kilkenny and no-one else, and we’re the exact opposite? Just when I was asking myself why I bother going to matches and considering packing in the whole exercise, along comes last Saturday evening to remind me just why I do go, that I will occasionally...

Clare

Yeah, last year Gilligan was the first (and only) man to clean Oakley, when he brought him out to the left corner alot. With Sid back, expect him to cover the centre if (when) Clare repeat the drill. Offaly are at a physical disadvantage (again). Must keep the ball moving. Watched the OY v CE vid la...

Sweeper

Very quickly, Id be reluctant to use a sweeper, as it takes time to get used to it. We don't play a posession game, we play direct so the opposition's free defender is going to sweep any low ball going into the FF line. Takes too much time to get used to, as lads won't know where to stand. Not a run...

Train Sunday

Heard on Radio 3 that there was a delay on the train Sunday morning and that the team were stranded at Tullamore station. Do any of ye know anything about this. And why did the subs come out the players' tunnel, turn right and up throught he crowd to the back of the Lower Hogan at half time in the W...

What now?

Still can't get Sunday's massacre out of me mind. The only consolation being that we won't meet a team like Kilkenny again this year. Unless the corner backs stay 10 yards off their men :x As for Waterford. Another very physical team who under Justin now play direct. Who stays? who goes? Offaly suff...

Referee

I see Galway's Michael Haverty is nominated to referee our match. Jeeesus, why do we always get lumped with championship debutant Galway referees when we are up against it facing physically stronger opponents. Now Haverty is said to be the best ref in Galway (thats saying something) but how many div...

HOPES AND FEARS

Keane could perhaps have taken the title of their current album from an assessment of our prospects on Sunday, as we dare to hope of what might happen if things go our way, yet that hope is tempered by the fears of the floodgates opening especially if an early Kilkenny onslaught occurs. I can’t help...
