Re: U21 Football Management

It's amazing how we all see differently through the looking glass. I'm inclined to agree with a lot of what dfaithful has said. Were it any other team, and we on the receiving end of a low-scoring game like this, I think people would be quick to pour scorn over these tactics. It's not pretty, involv...

Re: Best chipper in Offaly?

I'm duty bound to say that it's Ginger Stewarts in Clara :D

Much as it pains me to say it - and it doesn't quite qualify for best Chipper in Offaly - the Roma in Kilbeggan is top-class, if you can avoid the masses of tumbleweed blowing down the main street.

Re: U21 Football Management

Just a few comments on last nights game. Firstly, the critical stuff. When Meath ran the ball in the first-half we really struggled at times and were helped, in no small part, by their decision making within 25 yards of the Offaly goals. We really got out of jail with their goal chance, which would'...

Re: Life, Death & Hurling, The Michael Duignan Story

Good luck to the begrudgers, but I'm looking forward to Duignan's book.

And while we're also considering the merits of others:

Re: Mcnamee quits Offaly panel

Why are senior players like McManus, Brady, Slattery and Niall not stepping up and organising something then if they feel like this? Surely that would be a more constructive attitude than throwing the rattle out of the pram? Just to add to this. I'd be pretty browned-off with what has gone on durin...

Re: Most unpopular club in Offaly

I can't imagine any one club is disliked anymore than any other. Everyone has their reasons. Rivalries, neighbours, arguments, splits, history, success, etc. I get the feeling from talking to a lot of footballing people that Rhode haven't been that popular for a while now. Now, I'd be the first to s...

Re: Clara vs Edenderry 9/10/11

Firstly, congrats to Edenderry and to True Red. It's been a tough few years for the East Offaly men, no doubt compounded by the success of their near neighbours, but I'm sure yesterday wiped away a lot of hurt. Good luck to them in Leinster :) To the game, a lot of the main points have been covered....

Re: Clara vs Edenderry 9/10/11

On the third Sunday in October of 1995, Clara took to the field in O'Connor Park to play their third County Final in 5 years. Having won on their previous two appearances (91, 93) and with a strong, young team packed with Senior and U21 County footballers, confidence was high that the Dowling Cup wo...

I think that may be the definition of insanity AZ. In this case, I'm not going to argue the toss, since it's irrelevant to your point, which I endorse.

Re: Cowen and Offaly GAA

The tree's through houses argument is an easy one to win. Just post the link for Google Streets (yes, it exists for Clara!) and we can all judge who's telling the truth. That is of course, assuming that the Cowen entourage haven't photo-shopped the Google images. They would have that kind of power :D

Re: Clara vs Edenderry 9/10/11

I just don't see this as a great pairing for the final as Clara will win easily. Hmmm. This reminds me of the countdown to the 2007 County Final when both myself and Lone Shark thought that Shamrocks would beat Tullamore fairly easily. All the same arguments were made: - the stronger outfit - if th...

Re: Offaly Senior Football Club Championship 2011

As the dust settles on the County Semi-Finals, it's clear that over the two games one team under-performed while another found that elusive thing called "form", which for the best part of a year seemed to have deserted them. In 12 months, Gracefield have transformed themselves from a releg...

Also, I agree that Rynaghs could be well worth a punt.

Re: Offaly Senior Football Club Championship 2011

the intermediate championship is not easily won as edenderry found out when they were relegated a few years ago. Didn't the Reds bounce straight-back into Senior having beaten Doon in the Intermediate Final? As far as I remember, both teams had been relegated the previous year and then both made th...

Re: Offaly V Monaghan, SFC qualifier, 25/6/2011

Blistering starts to the first and second halves brought a deserved win for Offaly in a half-empty O'Connor Park on Saturday evening. In both halves, establishing 5-6 point cushions put Monaghan under enormous pressure to find their own purple-patch. Though they found one just before half-time, whic...
