"Defeat" of the proposed rules change.
I see the proposed changes were “defeated” 36% to 64% at the GAA congress on Saturday. I attended a number of games in both codes under the proposed system. I felt in general they were contribution to “fairer” contests and I think that a rule change in some format is certainly required. I would howe...

Re: Joe Dooley getting worried
Bolting the door when the horse is gone. We should have railed against this when the bizarre 1 up 1 down was first suggested. I dont know why we didn't .... maybe we did not want to appear "weak". I cannot get anybody to come up with a satisfactory reason as to why this format is in place ...

Re: Wexford v Offaly, NHL, 5/4/09
I went down to Wexford Park on Sunday. Bitterly disappointing. I thought we started well and threw the ball around nicely in the forward line and after ten mins there were no signs of what was to come. We conceded the first goal against the run of play and despite that we bounced back scoring two po...

Re: GPA and Cork Hurlers
I'll give Humphries the last work on this .... it was never between McCarthy and the players ... WE’RE GETTING to the end of an era in Cork. You can feel the smell of change in the air in a way that is irrevocable and unstoppable. Sometimes events just run away to a conclusion which those who engine...

Re: structures and offaly football in general
It’s a shame you did not make a separate post about Kilmurray Mr. Binman as that’s the one everybody has run with but the really important point you have made about the physical condition of lads from the age of 16 – c22. The modern day Gaelic footballer cannon compete in a 70 min game without havin...

Re: 1/2 A MILLION DOWN THE DRAIN
I think the GAA were bang on to do it. They stuck an extra E5 on the admission price which covered the bulk of the cost. All other league games nationally were E5 cheaper than Dublin Tyrone. If they had not had the fireworks they couldnt have upped the ticket price as all GAA tickets are a set stand...

Re: Leinster or Munster
I have never had any connection to rugby, until last year when my then 7-year-old started with Tullamore Rugby Club. I always have followed the parish rule to speak of, so seeing local lads wearing Munster jersies at gaa football training is beyond me. If I was to purchase any rubgy kit or merchand...

Re: Leinster or Munster
I’m from The Faithful living in Munster. When I lived in Dublin I’d head to Donnybrook or the RDS on a Friday night and even living down here I’ll try and make at least a couple of the home ERC games. What does wreck my head a bit is when Munster play I would normally wish them the best and hope the...

Re: GPA and Cork Hurlers
I see this went back up to the top of the news agenda this morning. At this stage people have their opinion as to whether they agree or disagree with the county board, players or managers positions so I won’t go into that. I was more interested in hearing in how you think the players presented thems...

Donal O’Grady article from todays Examiner ........................ No man bigger than Cork hurling BARACK OBAMA was installed on Tuesday as president of the USA, swept into power on a mandate for change — change that was sorely needed, according to the US electorate. Those winds of change haven’t b...

Re: GPA and Cork Hurlers
I think it’s interesting the way this dispute has become a stand off between McCarthy and the players with the county board avoiding any form of managing the dispute until the last few weeks. There are a observations I have with regard to this dispute: 1) A problem carried forward: The resolution of...

Re: Birr v Ballyhale
After a bad start Birr battled well in the second half and while Ballyhale probably deserved to win but I have seen Birr play worse and come out on top. In the first half the ball was coming back out from the forwards a bit too handy and the backs had to hurl a good lot of ball. Birr missed 2 fairly...

Re: John McIntyre - new Galway manager
If you take a look at who he has on the ticket with him (JC) its was no great surprise he got the job. No longer a one man operation or a one man sales job to the county board. Its about assembling a "team" to cover as many angles as you can when it comes to the vote. Lest we forget he man...

Re: Birr v Ballyboden - Leinster club SHC
I was at the game on Saturday and the first half performance by Birr was as good as I have seen them hurl in years. Their passing, use of the ball and option taking were excellent on almost every occasion and the ten point half time lead more or less killed the game. Sid picked up what looked like a...

Re: All Ireland final - Where does it leave us?
The only reason Tommy did not walk was that Barry Kelly did not want to been to send anybody off in a facile win. You would have to have struck off the ball to get the line. Personally I think he gets away with a huge amount. Henry has the leeway to question the referee in the same way most players ...
