Re: Richie Connor's first team selection
Is that Conor Carroll? I've only seen him play twice but must say was impressed. Very strong physically and hope he goes well. Also glad to see Flannery getting a run. No idea if he's county standard but any time I've played against him he has caused us all sorts of trouble. Who is Mulhall in goals?

Re: "Another way of assessing which teams can play senior"
I can't see another way of deciding who plays at what grade other than a simple promotion and relegation system. It's hard on some teams that are close to making the breakthrough but Croghan lost the Intermediate finals of 93, 94 and 95 and semi final of 96 before making it to senior where they stay...

Re: whos gonna win the championship now
Shannonbridge threw this away. First half tactics were excellent for the most part. they one a tonne of ball around the middle with Ryan and John Egan playing well. Unfortunately one of the other players kicked 8 to 10 balls either wide or into the keepers hands and as the game went on the wrong pla...

Roe, Offaly Football, Parishes and Waffles
Football in the county needs huge restructuring. It's not working and hasn't worked for a long long time. The talent at senior level is just not there. The lads who togged out on Sunday are poor inter county footballers. Couple this with a complete disinterest and lack of effort its no wonder that t...

Re: club championship
I think, and I've said this before, that the fixtures committee in this county are a disgrace. Players are forced to start training in January or early February for a game in April. Then peak again for a game......when....they don't tell you when?! 6 - 10 week breaks are the norm. They do this presu...

The Shamrocks game was hard to judge because Brigids were so poor. Most of their players performed well but most of that team are on or have been tried at county level. Shane Cunningham broke huge amounts of ball without stretching himself. Thomas Coughlan was very good, very fast, sharp, a great sp...

Attended a number of the Senior Football Games over the weekend and might share some of my thoughts for those interested. Erin Rovers were very unlucky to go down to Gracefield in Geashill Saturday evening, 1-10 to 1-8. It was a scrappy game for the most part, an awful lot of stoppages due to injury...

Game was spoiled by the ref. Sent 5 players off in what wasn't a dirty game. He must have been proud of his black book as he felt it necessary to show it to every player on the Offaly team. Offaly played most of the second half with 13 men and it is to their credit that they ploughed ahead with the ...

Offaly SFC Semi Finals
Draw was made last night during the Brigids V Erin Rovers game. Rhode V St. Brigids Clara V Shamrocks Rhode will be obvious favourites for the first game though anything can happen when such close neighbours are in competition. Don't know if they have met in recent times in the Championship. Maybe a...

Best player I saw this weekend was Rory Guinan of Ballycumber. Big, strong, athletic, a good passer and can kick with both feet. Kicked 6 great scores from tight angles including the equaliser with the game in the balance. I'd have questioned his mental game before but surely he was worth a run ahea...

To be fair St. Brigids pick is one of the smallest in the county and while the Junior B team starts off reasonably strong by the time this semi had come around a number of key players had been lost to the senior team. Having said that I was impressed with the Coolderry team. Half of them had Offaly ...

Senior Football Q-Finals and Relegation
Following the weekend results am I right in saying that the following 6 teams are through. 1 Rhode Ballycumber 2 Shamrocks Erin Rovers 3 Clara St. Brigids The winners of Groups 1 and 2 go to semis (most likely Shamrocks and Rhode) but what has it been decided if the group 3 winners play the group 1 ...
