Re: Walsh Cup - Antrim Match Review

I'm sure some out of Tresurer, Plain of the Herbs et al were around, so feel free to put your more cultured hurling spin on matters, but that was my summation, or as best as I can do in the 20 mins I have here in a public Library .... :D Afraid not LS, I let the side down and went to Leopardstown i...

New hurling format

Hmmm, I dunno. The purpose of the weak group was to protect a weaker (or newly promoted) club from getting hockeyed by Birr. Birr could now be drawn with, for example, Clara and Killavilla. The new format is not going to solve the problem the committee set out to solve, in that, if there is a repeat...

Seasons greetings.

I just want to wish all contributors here a happy and peaceful Christmas.
I've enjoyed the debate here in the last year, hopefully 2006 will have as many twists and turns as 2005 had for the green, white and gold, but come to a happier end.

Kilmurray

Does "Last year I listened to too many people," include the fella who was on hand in row A to inform Kilmurray how much time was left in the Laois match?

Leagues

Where did you see that re: next years NFL. Only don't say Martin Breheny wrote it. He had some dreary article saying a division 1, 2, 3 & 4 was the only logical way forward. When the fixtures were announced, it was stated that divisions 1 & 2 would not be re-drawn until next year, and would ...

Forthcoming leagues

Something that hasn't been mentioned in any of the papers is, how many qualify for the knockout stages of the NHL? 6 or 8? How is relegation decided. Bottom two in each group play off? Or bottom 3? Draw and fixtures look attractive, even cork looks 'do-able'. We've avoided KK and Tipp, our two bogey...

Bogman

As far as I know, Bogman, if Gary is reported for striking with the hurl, he will suffer a three month suspension. BUT December and January don't count for suspensions, so it could be early April before he can take the field again. However, if reported for "rough play" he would get 4 weeks...

Hurling draw

So, it's Laois, then Wexford. First reaction is one of relief to avoid Kilkenny. As regards Laois, the QF 2 years ago was in Tullamore because of a home-and-away arrangement dating back to 1980. Does this mean next years episode will be in Portlaoise? Assuming a win here, a return to Nowlan Park see...

birr CS

Mention of which, does anyone have the line-out of that Birr CS All-Ireland winning side of 1986? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

County final

Sunday's final will be won on hunger, by birr who have it inabundance. Revenge for last year, the ongoing Crinkill saga, and a new management and fresh approach are all factors which weren't there last year. Interesting to see where Coolderry site Joe Brady. On the evidence of the Kinnitty game, I'd...

Coolderry

An interesting point before next Sunday is that the oldest on the Coolderry starting 15 in the semi-final was 24!! (Murray & Paddy Teehan) Seamus Tooher (a big loss IMO) and Pat Connors havn't played this year, and Eoin Kennedy and Dermot Dooley didn't appear in the semi-final. Perhaps gives a c...

Sounds impressive. Hope they can walk the walk.

His plans for league success will be scuppered if Birr can win the Leinster club.

League fixtures will likely be Galway (h), Clare (a) Waterford (h) Laois (a) and Kilkenny (a) in the first phase.

Rynaghs

T'will be 13 years next year since Sean Robbins came up the hill into Banagher (1993).
Few, if any of the winning under 21's will remember that event.
They'll have a problem re-creating the tradition.

Lusmagh

Don't mean to by picky, but David Moran started and played full back throughout.
Backs lined out- Adrian Kelly, David Moran, Brian Birmingham; Temple, Gardiner, Kevin Birmingham.
The two Birmingham cousins switched on about the 25 minute mark.
