Some counties looked at covid and did nothing, others saw an opportunity and did a lot of work through other means. There has been a definite shift in philosophy with development squads in offaly and not for the better. More reliance on clubs do high quality coaching and S & C which quite simply is not been done by the majority of clubs within the county.

This is a problem. As there isn't currently a great culture of S & C in the county, we need it to be driven by a centralised core group.

Plus, the lads who will be Offaly Minors, or Offaly Seniors in the making, should be training and preparing at a higher level than the lads who don't aspire to play at a higher level into adulthood.

Sometimes it happens that a minor team get an awful thumping in their opening fixture and regroup and make improvements afterwards.
In 2010 Offaly beat Longford by 22 points in the opening game and then lost to them by 6 points in the Leinster final.

friend of mine involved with the clare minors.. offaly thumped them 3 or 4 weeks ago in limerick. he said to me you will be going up the country to see them young lads a good bit later in the year.he reckoned they were v good..then clare beat someone reasonable after. just shows its hard rate minors specially at u 17 level...maybe like the above post said they might come good yet..

Lot of things went against the minors, they will regroup.
Few players that started are not at the level, and this needs to be addressed for the next day which I expect it will.

U17 is not like minor in years gone by. Its more developmental and with players been so young a game can go against you and its hard to stop and turn it around.

Super win over Meath today. After going behind in the 4th minute of injury time too. These lads must have a lot of character to dig that one out and after being trounced by Kildare too.

Shocked to see we were doing so well after huge loss the last day (checked in on Twitter with about 20 mins to go).

More shocked to see we were all set to win in closing stages.

Even More Shocked to see Meath took the lead to score a goal at the death to win the game (again via twitter).

Even More than more than shocked to see final result to see we had won with an even later goal and knock the All Ireland Champions out of Leinster.

Great showing lads, well done to all. Took a lot of bottle to do that after the last day. Another win sees us through I believe but that will not be easy.

Great for offaly to win. Comedy of a goal to win it. Meath player kicked it off his own man?
Kildare and Dublin are 15 points ahead of everyone in leinster.

The minors are through now, they play Longford the next day to see who goes to quarter finals and who goes to preliminary quarters.

The top team in group A and B go straight to semi finals, Dublin and Kildare.

The second place team go straight to quarter finals in group A and B. The third place teams play the top two from group C in the preliminary quarters with the two winners going into the quarters.

As both Longford and Offaly have beaten Meath the winner will go second and the loser will be third even if Meath beat Kildare on the head to head rule.
