Watch out. The more fines they issue, the more profit the private consortium who run this make.

True, but it depends how you define speeding.
There are narrow, bendy boreens that you can tear around at 80kph and not break any speed limit. Then you have big, straight, open double lane roads with every possible hazard minimised and a 60kph limit. Its the latter that the Gardai blitz - for obvious reasons.

This camera system will probably be run on a maximising profit basis. So I suspect the areas targetted will be places where the speed limit and quality of the road are anomalous.

Just like the privitised clamping system. Ambulances and emergencies vehicles have ended up getting clamped, once the aim of the game became to clamp as many as you can, as quickly as you can.

Thats a common misconception I'm afraid. The private company are being paid an hourly rate which has no relevance to the amount of fines they issue.

Well that's is the official line.
I'm sure if the private company didn't issue any fines, they wouldn't keep the contract for long.
If it isn't about money, then why fine at all. Just hand out penalty points and suspend licences.

Hopefully this new initiative will deter thugs like Bord na Mona man from inflicting their loutish boy racer style IRA driving on law abiding road users.

I'll remind you of that when you get pulled for doing 88kph just inside a signpost where a 100 turns into and 80.

True - and watch out for in a few months time, when they talk about how few people were caught and how few fatalities there were that the new system has been "proven" to be a success. This is a spin doctors dream right now.
