Francis Forde New Coach with offaly Hurlers

Post by townman »

I see where ex Galway hurler Francis Forde has join Joe Dooleys back room team as a coach
could be a good move as he was over the Banagher voc team that won the all ireland in 2005, he might bring a new voice to the team.

Dooley expects Forde to be a "major asset"

07 October 2010

Offaly hurling manager Joe Dooley believes the addition of former Galway star Francis Forde to his backroom team will help to freshen things up.

Forde, who is a teacher based in Banagher, will assist Dooley in the coaching duties as the Faithful County seek to build on the progress they've made under the Seir Kieran clubman over the past three years.

"Francis is highly regarded as a coach and I have no doubt he will be a major asset to us," Dooley said in The Irish Independent.

"It's always good to have new ideas and his arrival will enable me to work on some other things. There's an awful lot of work to be done with county teams nowadays."

Explaining the reasons behind his decision to remain on as a manager for a fourth season, Dooley said: "My term was up this year but, in fairness, the county board made it clear they wanted me to stay on.

"What I then had to decide was if that was in the best interests of Offaly hurling. Having weighed things up, I decided to give it another go and am really looking forward to getting back working with the lads in the New Year."

A good step forward.
There is a lot of work on the plate of an IC manager between dealing with players, CB and the press. Not to mention tactics, video analysis, strength and conditioning, and a whole host of other stuff. If joe can get this right, then hopefully the prescence of Forde will bring on the hurling ability of the players. His coaching of successful galway minor teams shows a good pedigree.
