Leinster Minor Hurling Champs 2000.... where now?

Post by allstar2010 »

As we have seen in recent challenge matches, Cordial and Brown are back on the senior team... hard to believe that its 10years ago that these lads were on the team that last won a leinster minor for the county.... can anyone list out the players and subs from that minor panel and say where they are now??...

The Kinnitty lads:

Enda Grimes (Wing back): Been on the Kinnitty Senior team since that day in a variety of positions. Most effective at midfield

Eoghan Carroll (Midfield): Did some serious damage to his leg/hernia not long after and never got it fully right. Currently on the Kinnitty Junior team

John Clendennen (Used Sub): On and Off the Kinnitty senior team for the last 5 or 6 years. Can be a goal threat at times.

The Offaly minor panel for the Leinster final was:

Barry Teehan - Coolderry
Enda Grimes - Kinnitty
Joe Brady (capt.) - Coolderry
Stephen Brown - Birr
Eoghan Carroll - Kinnitty
Nevile Coughlan - Shamrocks
Brian Carroll - Coolderry
Ger Rafferty – St Rynagh’s
Michael Cordial - Shinrone
Kevin Kelly – St. Rynagh’s
Rory Hanniffy - Birr
Jason Larkin – Birr (Riverstown, no?)
Seamus McDonald – Kilcormac-K
John Clendennen - Kinnitty
Martin Corcoran -Coolderry
Kevin Cummins - Shamrocks
Colin Dunne RIP - Shamrocks
Ger Gardiner - Lusmagh
Andrew Hall - Coolderry
Austen Lynch - Lusmagh
Brendan O’Meara - Coolderry

Also. Robert Dillon (K/K) was in goal for the first round defeat by Dublin. Dylan Hayden started against Galway.

Gary Maguire was in goal for Dublin. Derek O’Reilly, Conal Keaney & David O’Callaghan lined out for Dublin. Sean O’Neill was build up by the Dublin media as the next saviour of Dublin hurling after he scored 3-2 against Wexford in the semi final. He never got a puck & ended up starting a row at the canal end and getting put off! He was never heard of again.

While we’re at it, the Under 21 panel for the All Ireland semi final against Galway was:-

Shane O’Connor – Coolderry
Shane Horan – St. Rynagh’s
David Moran – Lusmagh
John Paul O’Meara – Birr
David Franks – Ballyskenagh
Willie Comerford – Shinrone
Stephen Brown – Birr
Aidan Hanrahan (capt.) – Lusmagh
Declan Tanner – St. Rynagh’s
Conor Gath – Drumcullen
Paul Molloy – Birr
Brendan Murphy – Ballyskenagh
Rory Hanniffy – Birr
Eoin McGuinness – kinnitty
Damien Murray – Coolderry
Jason Ryan – Shinrone
Richie McRedmond – Kinnitty
Gary O’Connor – St. Rynagh’s
Joe Brady – Coolderry
Brian Troy – Lusmagh
Paddy Teehan – Coolderry
Paul Carroll – Birr
Sean Ormond – Shinrone
John McLoughney – Coolderry

Also: Mick O’Hara was full back in the Leinster final – I recall he did his cruciate shortly after. Shane Horan replaced him for the semi final.

The Galway team features Ciaran Callanan in goal, Eoin McDonagh (a grand hurler who never made it), Diarmuid Cloonan, Derek Hardiman, Conor Dervan & David Tierney. John Culkin (pronounced Culkeen on Galway Bay FM!) was on too, he was a senior panellist at 19 before disappearing without trace.
