Blah, blah, blah. Who gives a crap?

Meaningless drivel.

He'd say the same about St. Mary's of the Blind.

Ah yeah. I don't think anyone's falling for that nonsense though. Yes, we notched up a good score in the match last week but it was only Laois. They couldn't even win the fight before the match!

Exactly - someone put the question to him and he could hardly say that he thinks we're useless and he's going to field a "B" team for training purposes.

All I'd take out of that is that some journalist somewhere needs to learn how to ask better questions.

what the journalist needs to do is brush up on his journalistic skills.......and maybe interview the grass roots followers rather then the managers!! the supporters usually give a better outlook on the match rather than those close to the team....

The answer to your question - probably nothing different.

I've always found this kind of thing to be far more motivating than if opponents say what they really think. Just the way I'm wired I guess.

COME ON OFFALY!!!

It's the same in any sport, it's just one of those cliched responses. Cody means nothing by it, just answering a dull question with a time worn reply.

You ask the Offaly Management, and they'd probably say something like..
"obviously we are the underdogs, and we've no problem with that. Kilkenny are a great side, but at the end of the day it's 15 against 15 and anything can happen."

It's all bullshit. No-one is ever going to tell it like it actually is.

GAA managers take it to the extreme.
In other sports managers don't bend over backwards complimenting the opposition, to the point of blatantly lying.
Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho, Arsene Wenger have often got involved in mind games where they cast doubts over their opponents' abilities.
In Aussie Rules their is plenty of trash talking about the opposition.

What's more annoying is when a GAA underdog wins and immediately starts complaining about being "written off" and "no one gave us a chance". In nearly all cases the pundits have marginally tipped the favourites, while the underdogs spent the build up talking down their chances. To me the suggestion of being "written off" implies that no one gave you the slightest hope of putting up even the faintest challenge

If Cody was dosed with truth serum, this is what he'd really say:

"Offaly are down at the moment and lets keep it that way. It's important to not just beat them, but demoralise them so they can't rebuild easily and threaten our dominance in Leinster.
I want my lads to stick some goals past them early and watch their heads drop. They confidence is brittle so lets not allow them start believing in themselves.
Goals are what I want to see!
Henry tapped a penalty over the bar back in 2005 and though we won by 31 points, that kind of softness annoyed me. I really think he should have gone for goal. We need to be utterly ruthless at all times.
In 1980 we lost a Leinster final to them and it took us 20 years to Offaly back in their box. Lets never make that mistake again"
:D
