Just to summarise who's left . . .
Wexford – Oulart-The Ballagh, Buffer’s Alley
Kilkenny – Ballyhale, O’Loughlin Gaels, Clara, Erin’s Own, James Stephens
Dublin – St. Vincent’s, Craobh Chiarain, Ballyboden-St. Enda’s, Crumlin, O’Toole’s, St. Patrick’s-Palmerstown, Kilmacud Crokes, Lucan Sarsfields
Westmeath – Clonkill
Laois – Cluck-Ballacolla, Portlaoise
Offaly – Birr, Tullamore, Coolderry, Kilcormac-Klloughey
And the draw, as stated on the previous page of this topic is as follows:-
1. Wexford v Kilkenny 01.11.2009 Wexford
2. 1 v Dublin 15.11.2009 Home Venue 1
3. Westmeath v Laois 01.11.2009 Westmeath
4. 3 v Offaly 15.11.2009 Home Venue 3
FINAL: 2 v 4 29.11.2009
The only remarkable part of this is that if Birr reach the final and the Kilkenny champions do likewise, Birr would have to travel to Kilkenny for the third year running. That's the bad luck of the draw. My point is, coculd they not play these on an alternating 'home and away' basis rather than the 'top of the draw' basis that currently exists. If this remains the case Birr (or the Offaly champions) could have to go to Kilkenny every year from here to eternity.
Ditto the Leinster Under 21 hurling championship. Offaly rarely get a home draw, but Wexford is worse. They haven't had a home draw in that grade since 2005. Dublin have only had to travel to Clane in that period and have had each of Kilkenny, Offaly and Wexford in Parnell Park TWICE in the last three years.
I suspect they don't mix up the balls in the pot and they come out in the same order they go in. Remember 'Áth Cliath' is first alphabetically and 'Uíbh Fháilí' is last.
