Offaly Senior Football Team - Championship 2023
Re: Offaly Senior Football Team - Championship 2023
An Offaly Double! Winning is a good feeling. Long may it last!
As an aside, Gaelic Park was amazing last night. So many tight games over the years starting w Sligo back in 1999 (I believe). Was such a great feeling to finally get over the line. You’d have thought they won an All Ireland from the players reaction and pitch invasion. A special night that won’t be forgotten.

Re: Offaly Senior Football Team - Championship 2023
Well done to the team and management.
But I don't buy into the fact that Longford is a hard place to go etc. We played perfectly for the first 10mins, got sloppy and were in a dogfight thereafter.
We settled and came from 2 down to lead by 2 and next thing from nowhere we concede 1-01. I know we defended well in terms of blocks etc, but Longford had a good number of chances where they carried the ball easy enough into the scoring area.
neither team played well with the breeze. We had ample opportunities to hit them on the break in the second half and effectively kill off the game, but the execution of the pass was poor or we didn't look to get the quick ball in first time.
That said we had a good number of decent performances. Someone sais that Jamie Evans was unlucky to be taken off, the chap was out on his feet after making a significant contribution. Nigel Dunne struggled and could have gone earlier, Anton was the quietest i've seen him.
Longford shaded midfield but we did ok I thought on our kickouts with Duffy doing well.
Backs were ok individually but as a group we struggled at times with runners.
Meath next? And whilst they will travel in numbers and most likely outnumber us, we have a chance. But we have to be more consistent in the basic execution, particularly in transition, the goal showed what we can do with the proper delivery and we created some good scores. The ability to beat Meath, who will be under pressure after the league, will depend on this.
I think Meath will win as we have ridden our luck to a certain degree in the league and to a lesser extent on Sunday, but if we really want it and can make steady decisions and use our bench fully, we may be able to shade it. O'Rourke will pull out all the stops for this one as if he loses this, he may as well pack his bag...serious pressure on him. Personally i hoped he would do well with them, but not at our expense!
Huge opportunity for our guys, and there will be a significant spotlight on this game because of the O'Rourke factor...so will be a good indication of where we can go.
Looking forward to it.

A tough game that was never going to be any different.
Offaly gave up the kickouts and this paid dividends
Defensively we were brilliant, to a man they were excellent actually from top to bottom forwards put in a shift as well.
Hogan, Dempsey and Cunningham in particular were sensational.
Midfield struggled but never gave up.
Pearson , Egan and Donnelly are full of energy.
Pearson is my favourite Offaly player, what a gem. Brave fast and he is a line breaker.
Up front Anton and Ruari were really out of the game, it can happen ,both were struggling for the most part and probably should have been taken off earlier.
Hyland has some engine and he is a big player, not a great return scoring wise but offered a lot of energy all over the field
Evans and dunne were ok.
Maher Carroll and Allen all contributed
And Cian Farrell looked a little sharper than he had been which is really good sign
Can we beat Meath lads ?

Fear nothing but fear
If we play an attacking game we have a. Massive chance
But if not ?

If we stick our toe in it we probably get hit with a bout of nerves.Superhans75 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 1:47 pm Fear nothing but fear

We may not be ‘great’, but the team has shown some resolve and pulled out some tight games. There are positives to continue to build on. For years we’ve lost the majority of the tight affairs. Meath hasn’t show anything that says the likes of us should hold any fear.

Your soccer team is playing circa 50 games a season, 25 at home charging this.. GAA inter county teams playing 5 or 6 championship games in a season, if they’re luckySuperhans75 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2023 4:46 am 15 euro I'm off to a football game in England on Saturday

Re: Offaly Senior Football Team - Championship 2023
Yes I agree but there are to many club games not enough intercounty.
The non league UK soccer model should be looked into
As they get they have branched out into food ,bar etc
Use of club house for functions.
It works .
I am regularly in the north watch a good few games
The Gaa clubs are set up well bar, food, and entertainment..
Can't even gets sandwich in O'Connor park . anymore

Bring yer own sambos!
Cans as well. Sur Jaysus we're in the middle of a cost of living crisis.
€25 might seem steep enough alright and family etc. But tis a home game so no great additional expense (for most people).
Also its a double header with Kildare and Louth so is alright from that perspective.
