Good result last night. The final is at home on 6th July, the minor footballers playLaois that night in the Leinster semi final, will that game be refixed?Plain of the Herbs wrote:Of all the Offaly teams to hurl in the last week, the U21s were the ones under the most pressure to deliver. And deliver they did.
Not a traditional Offaly team per se, they are good in the air, they have pace, they are athletic, and are ruthless when they get a sniff of a goal. And yet they carry the traditional Offaly never-say-die spirit and work like beavers when the ball is on the ground.
Buoyed with enthusiasm that the Seniors’ run in Leinster, and the U17s’ great win in Kilkenny, has brought, Offaly hurled confidently throughout. It wasn’t perfect (far from it, but that’s for another day), and even when Carlow scores resulted from Offaly mistakes, they never dropped their heads and they carried on and fielded the resultant puckout. Colm Lyons came in for criticism last Sunday, but the fella who refereed this evening (James Heffernan from Wexford) was ten times worse with a succession of incorrect decisions in an appalling performance.
Eoghan Cahil is confident and competent in goals. Ben Conneely dominated the centre and was fierce impressive. Paddy Delaney did what Paddy Delaney does. Offaly toploaded the full-forward line which paid dividends. Ronan Hughes has pace, Wyer, Guinan and Murray foraged well. Conor Freeman impressed when he came on. And Offaly sorted out their freetaking too, with Dylan Murray entrusted with any frees from halfway up.
A fortnight now to an O’Connor Park Final, which is where Offaly want to be. Dublin will start overwhelming favourites and again that’s what you want.

Re: U21 Hurling Championship.
Really good for most of last night.
Use the ball fast and direct.
a bit of a physical presence in the half forward line is key to the team. Stop power against defences and strength under a dropping ball.
What a game in O'Connor park.
Lets hope we get a huge crowd to support these young lads.

Great job. Congrats to the U21s!
Making a Leinster Final is nice, now making our chance count is the key.
Looking forward to it!

Re: U21 Hurling Championship.
That's just fine. Let them think that way. And when management (and indeed players) start talking publicly about the need to guard against complacency it means, well, that they will be complacent. And if the complacent team takes an early lead (say 0-3 to 0-0, or score the first goal) that will merely reinforce their complacency. Offaly could write the book on the subject of complacency in sport - from both sides of the 'condition'.

They did, but Nolan and Kelly both scored 2 goals. C Kiely scored another goal, and Dylan Murray was accurate from placed balls. Cahill in goals kept Offaly in it with a few top class saves in the first half.Killeighman wrote:I thought Offaly had more players than Emmet Nolan and Oisin Kelly????
Ben Conneely at 6 was effective too.
Re: U21 Hurling Championship.
But dont tell them anything !!!!!!!! Let them believe the only hurling team is the Dubs !!!!Killeighman wrote:I thought Offaly had more players than Emmet Nolan and Oisin Kelly????
