Apologies for my ignorance Lone Shark but I'm just wondering who compiles this league table - sounds like an awful lot of work for one man, especially with the scores weighted for favourites and underdogs.
Incidentially, would have thought the St Brigids' v Shannonbridge tie would be regarded as close enough to 50/50.

Clara v St Rynaghs - Clara
Tullamore v Rhode - Rhode
Doon v Erin Rovers - Doon

Tisn't that much work, ten minutes to put up the fixtures, 50 odd to compile the results. In the greater scheme of things, an hour is a drop in the ocean of my time spent on here. As for the Brigid's v Bridge game, Brigid's have one county starter, two of the county's brightest forward prospects and have reached the knockout stages for the last two years. Shannonbridge have potential, but none of these other more concrete things - so hence if I was pricing it, I'd be 4/7 Brigids - which is generally my crossing line for going favs or not. It was a close call, but in the end I felt Croghan had to be favourites - and seeing as there is only one point for successfully tipping them, they've still got a fair amount of calls. Still, I'll accept I am a bit out of the loop over here, so if my lines start to look ridiculous, let me know!
I was trying to think of a system that could work for the real mismatches - I'm thinking Birr vs Killavilla and Clara this year. Any ideas gratefully received.......

How about offering bonus points if you are close to predicting the winning margin?Lone Shark wrote:I was trying to think of a system that could work for the real mismatches - I'm thinking Birr vs Killavilla and Clara this year. Any ideas gratefully received.......
i.e. So you'd predict" Birr by 18 points" and if you're within a certain range, say + or - 2 points out, you get a bonus point. So you'd get the bonus if the winning margin was 16 to 20 points.
Obviously the range would by lowered for closer matches.

Handicapping might be the waqy to go for games like that all right. I won't go doing that for every game, but for the mismatches it could be the way out.
Bart has joined the mid Offaly boys, so they are fleshing out in numbers - it's now the hurlers that need a few more - Treasurer, Loughers, Rynagh's Biffo, Alan, where are you?
I also need locations for Juteman, GAAA Head and The Rat. I have suspicions for all three, (2 North, one West
) but feel free to confirm folks!
