I notice the fixture says losers group round one, does that imply there will be a second round in the loser's group

No, it doesn't. There were ten teams entered. Five first round ties last weekend with the five winners advancing to the quarter-finals. To make up eight quarter-finalists they gave one of the first-round losers a bye to the quarter-final. This turned out to be Tullamore. The four other first-round losers (2x2) play a single round to make up the remaining quarter-finalists.

It's not ideal, but 10 is an odd number for a back-door system like that, for which 12 is the ideal number (reference the Leinster Minor football championship, or the Offaly SHC in the 1970s).

The back-door round is the coming weekend, the quarter-finals the following weekend with the semi-finals the weekend after that.

Quarter Final draw on offaly dot gaa dot ie

Tullamore v Ballinamere Gaels
Coolderry Óg v St Brendan's
Kilcormac Killoughey v Clareen
Rynagh's v St Mary's.

Some tasty ones there. Neigbours clash with Tullamore and the artists formerly known as St Malachy's. Ditto with Coolderry v Birr. Matches to be played the coming weekend. I presume that will be Sunday, what with Offaly minors being out on Saturday evening.

Rynagh's beat Shinrone 1-18 to 2-12 in an entertaining match in Banagher earlier this afternoon. Rynagh's led 1-9 to 0-7 at half time, shinrne levelled with two goals to make it 1-12 to 2-10 but Rynagh's pulled away with an inpressive series of points.

I heard Birr beat Coolderry something like 3-6 to 0-9 having led 2-4 to 0-6 at half time.

Rynaghs/Belmont v Tullamore is now in Killeigh this evening at 5pm.
Birr v Clareen is now in Lusmagh tomorrow at 2pm. Entirely logical to bring this to the driest hurling pitch around. A day like today will do it a power of good too.

I am sure that it must have been a great help to the pitch not having to have under 21's train on it. I still think it is better to use a pitch for training than to preserve it for matches which involve visiting teams only.

I know you don't have a clue but anyway. There's plenty of hurling played on our pitch. Our U14s played Drumcullen there on Friday evening. The Camogie team had a match there yesterday (Saturday) evening. There was the U21 today while tomorrow our U16s play Clareen.

Maybe if other clubs installed drainage systems at the outset, like Lusmagh did, instead of building Byzantine monuments, adults, underage, men and women would be assured of having a pitch to play home league matches, to train on and to host matches.
