I wouldnt think either team consider themselves a threat to Rhode who should easily top the group. Edenderry will be hoping not to be involved in a relegation playoff and if teams stop Bernard Allen(like Edenderry did) then Tubber wont go much further than a quarter final i reckon.kingscounty wrote:neither team will be a treat to rhode, who it seems are once again red hot to win it this year again!!

Re: Offaly Senior Football Club Championship 2011
Agree with all, Daingean have fallen behind most grounds in terms of facilities. Ballinagar always gets a few league finals and senior/intermediate championship matches. I'm not begrudging them that but the surface and pitch there can be terrible. Extremely wet or extremely hard but it is a great location.
Tubber losing was a bit of a shock but then it wouldn't be championship football if all results went to plan. Hopefully the upsets keep on rolling to break up the Clara/Rhode monopoly.

Re: Offaly Senior Football Club Championship 2011
Finished Ferbane 2-10 Tullamore 0-6. Tullamore not at their best at all but Ferbane were wired for this game and it showed - physically on top throughout and despite no obvious individual brilliance, comfortably the better team. Could easily have scored two more goals as well. Hugely impressed with the work rate all round, but the half back line in particular were outstanding. Huge improvement from the Tubber match.
Kevin Williamson tried hard to get things going for Tullamore but it's difficult to make real headway when you only have one foot and everyone can see it, while Shane Dooley took some nice scores but didn't really get on the ball enough from a Tullamore perspective.
Tullamore won't find points easy to come by now with several of that team heading away for the summer. There doesn't look to be any soft touches in this group so while you could never rule them out, they'll find it tough to pick up the two wins (at least) that they'll need to sneak fourth place.

Re: Offaly Senior Football Club Championship 2011
tullamore playing with the wind in the second half still persisted in the short hand passing game around the backs and middle of the field instead of pumpin early ball into dooley and williamson who won any ball that came into them in the first half, ferbane totally dominated the kick outs and any loose ball around midfield, tullamore will struggle now to win their last 3 which i feel they will need to and with maloney and brazil heading down under and after their reaction after the match that dooley and williamson will concentrate on hurling and soccer for the summer

Re: Offaly Senior Football Club Championship 2011
Long high ball is not Tullamore's style though, and whatever about Dooley, it would be impossible to expect Williamson to win a ball that came to him from 60 yards away. Even long range lower deliveries didn't work too well for them - yes the lads won a few, but Colm Gavin in particular and most of the Ferbane backs generally read the play very well and dropped deep to pick up a lot of these long passes.concrete wrote:tullamore playing with the wind in the second half still persisted in the short hand passing game around the backs and middle of the field instead of pumpin early ball into dooley and williamson who won any ball that came into them in the first half....
Tullamore were living off scraps possession wise and got very little out of James Keane and Declan Hogan, who would normally be very good ball carriers from the wing back positions. If you were to point the finger in one area, and in a ten point defeat there's more than one area struggling, but I'd say that was the biggest issue. Tullamore always carry the ball out of defence, usually at speed - that's their game plan. Ferbane just didn't let them do that today and did a great job of pressuring from the front.

Re: Offaly Senior Football Club Championship 2011
The 2nd round of the Senior Championship has nearly thrown up more surprise results than the entire championship last season. What odds Rhode slipping up?
Re: Offaly Senior Football Club Championship 2011
Odds on Rhode slipping up Rhode 1/12 draw 10/1 Rovers 15/2 per pp.

Re: Offaly Senior Football Club Championship 2011
yes there has been a few shocks so far but realisticly these dont mean anything come knockout stages...referring to the clara and gracefield game, alright clara had a bad day but if anyone who was there will agree with me that they won that game because of the simple fact that it was in killeigh...for the whole second half and alot of the first they had there 15 players in there own half back line and that is no exaggeration...the fact of the matter is that if they tried that in oconnor park clara would have wiped the floor with them. None the less gracefield looked very hungry and was a great win for them....i expect this to be a wake up call for clara.

Re: Offaly Senior Football Club Championship 2011
Obviously Clara will be in the knockout stages regardless, after all even if they do slip up against either Ballycumber or Walsh Island you couldn't see Rynaghs taking points off them. I wouldn't say it's irrelevant though, if nothing else it's a massive two points for Gracefield that puts them in a great position to rach the knockouts and possibly kick on and finish well up the group. If they can win two of their last three games - and they will beat Shamrocks - then Calra winning out will see Gracefield top the group on head to head.
Also, the wins this week for Ferbane and Edenderry were massive for both of those clubs, so even if it's a big jump for the greens or reds to go on and win a county title, the psychological impact of getting points on the board will be crucial.
Tullamore have their work cut out for them too - take Moloney, Brazil and Hogan out of that team and you have a very middling group with real weak spots. It's touch and go whether or not they reach the quarters now, and that's at best.

Rhode 0-14 0-7 Erin Rovers.
A lot tighter game than the scoreline suggests. Anton Sullivan been the real difference

wasn't at the match or anything but what has Killeigh got to do with it four lines around the field two goalposts like o'connor parkoffalyman18 wrote:yes there has been a few shocks so far but realisticly these dont mean anything come knockout stages...referring to the clara and gracefield game, alright clara had a bad day but if anyone who was there will agree with me that they won that game because of the simple fact that it was in killeigh...for the whole second half and alot of the first they had there 15 players in there own half back line and that is no exaggeration...the fact of the matter is that if they tried that in oconnor park clara would have wiped the floor with them. i think a lot of it is Clara thought all they had to do was show up and win which is silly as there is never much between the two clubs when they meet.
just looking at the gracefield team young team and a lot of them like Adrian Murphy,Ruari Allen,Jason Ryan,Niall Smith,John Knight, Tommy Fitzpatrick,
Karol Slattery and Peter Smart have all worn the county jersey at minor or under 21 and senior as for 15 men behind the ball didn't do tyrone any harm over
the years. and i can tell you if they meet again Clara wouldn't wipe the floor with them never could even if it is in o'connor park clara would be a bit stronger
alright if they were to meet but they wouldn't wide the floor with them anyway. them and Walsh Island could be dark horses this year be good for offaly football
if both them teams were back offaly needs them.
