Réalt Dearg looking for new players/selectors/managers.

Post by themaninred+black »

Réalt Dearg was founded last year in Terenure in Dublin due to the lack of a hurling club in the surrounding area. The club has progressed at an amazing rate, reaching the county semi final in our maiden year. This year we have entered two teams into the league, championship and cup competitions along with having one team entered in the Leinster League.

Yesterday we played Edenderry in the Leinster league and despite missing nearly 10 regulars Edenderry were pushed very hard and only came out on top by a single white flag with the introduction of Killian Farrell tipping the game back in their favour after a great 1st half from the Stars.

The guys from Edenderry gave us a great reception afterwards and told us they had been following our progress online for the past few months. It was very encouraging to hear word is spreading and I decided I would put up a post here and see if others had heard of us and if we could gain any new members from it. We have recruited most of our players so far by word of mouth or from discussion forums such as An Fear Rua etc and now have in the region of 40 players involved, which is cutting it fine with two panels when you take into account injuries, work, holidays etc! We would love to add to our Offaly contingent, you lads only have one representative so far! We also are also looking for people to help out as managers/selectors as so far we have had players picking the teams in the absence of non-playing members and you can imagine that's an added pressure no player needs coming into a game.

If you would like to get involved or want to find out more about us please ask as all levels of hurlers are welcome. If you are living in Dublin but still hurling at home then we have no problem with lads who want to come down and train but not play matches, the more the merrier. See www.realtdearg.ie for more info and feel free to contact one of the committee members to ask about training times if you want to come down and have a look.

i was at the edenderry game, good clean game of hurling and fair play to the lads for setting up in hard times its not easy.edenderry were missing 7 players themselves due to work and other games clashing and injurys.the lads from edenderry said they would be delighted to help out in any way even challenge games etc.its great that realt dearg have such a mix of players from kilkenny, clare, limerick etc and i have no doubt you will be a strong force in dublin in the near future.

Can't say I've heard of ye but the website is very good. You'll struggle for the first few years but hang in there. County boards should be doing all they can to promote clubs like yourselves. Best of luck with it.

Firstly, Commisserations to Offaly on their relegation. It'll be tough to stomach being in Division 2 but hopefully you can regroup and come back up stronger next year!
Secondly, thanks for the support!

We had a great win against Kilmacud Crokes in the league on Sunday but even going as well as we are we ended up tight for numbers with lads injured and caught in work etc. Anyone interested in coming down hurling/managing or even just to keep sharp if you are in Dublin mid-week but hurling at home at weekends is more than welcome. We've come on a huge amount in one year to have two adult teams and are hoping that in the next year or two we can get a juvenile set-up off the ground. If you want to follow the progress we get match reports of most games up on the site under the news heading www.realtdearg.ie

Hi, just to bump this up again as we have been getting a fantastic response still from publicity on forums. We have been getting a steady stream of 1-2 new players per week since the initial surge in early Spring. Amazing progress and possibly unique in the GAA at the moment? If any of you are around Dublin on Sunday and fancy something to do with your afternoon, we are having a 7-aside tournament for all club members at 2pm in Bushy Park Terenure. It's for La na gClub and should be great craic with the teams divided up roughly by county to add an edge with championship around the corner!

As always I'd like to stress that all new members are welcome, regardless of how much or little previous experience you have of the game. In fact we've decided to run a few introductory sessions over the next few weeks to help hone the basic skills for some of the newer lads. Add that to some of the lads having previously played county minor and we have a right good mix of levels!!!

fair play to ye

but if ye cannot cater for more players (teams and facilities), it might be better to go with what ye have for 2011

Thanks manfromdelmonte. We're not having any problem catering for the numbers yet anyway so the more the merrier. What with injuries, work commitments and holidays, you'd want two very large panels to keep both teams going strong for the summer. In fairness to DCB you get a serious amount of games in these leagues and championships even if you don't reach knockout so anyone that fancies coming down to training will be in with a great chance of still playing 10+ games this year! A hell of alot more than some of us used to get playing on junior teams in some other counties. As always best bet is to go to www.realtdearg.ie and give one of the committee members a text or call about training times to get involved.

I think we played Civil Service at some stage last year alright. Would be a good club for a lad to join if living in that part of the city as we are a bit further out.

If you are out in Terenure or surrounding areas, Ranelagh, Rathmines, Rathgar, Clonskeagh, Donnybrook etc and fancy hurling then give us a shout. Both teams have been going well this year, you can follow the match reports for both panels on www.realtdearg.ie We've even had All-Ireland winner and two time All-Star George O'Connor in to give a training session to try give us an edge :) Both teams have loads of matches left this year and should be playing into september so do get involved. It's irrelevant if you're the guy who has recently moved permanently to Dublin, the guy who needs to train mid-week to stay sharp for his club in Offaly, or the equally as important, guys who have been away from the game for a few years or perhaps have never played but want to start. We aim to cater for every level and will have extra sessions available to develop the basic skills for any beginners. Just post back here or contact one of our committee members for more info.

Manfromdelmonte. We're playing Civil Service in the league this evening at 7.30 in Islandbridge if you're interested in having a look at your old team in action against us!

Réalt Dearg have made great progress this year. Our efforts earlier in the year to get more people back hurling were successful and we built up both panels to the stage where we have managed to get both teams into championship quarterfinals and the A team also challenging for the league title. I can honestly say I have never enjoyed playing hurling to the same extent as I do with Réalt Dearg and love how the club is growing all the time with everyone working together for the good of the club! Recent events that were hugely successful included two Predict the Score competitions, No Phones Table Quiz and very successful Bachelor Auction! Thanks for the support we've received from people on this and other sites. If you still want to get involved please do, we've a decent amount of matches left to get playing, the teams should be going till mid-late September now! We're more than happy to accommodate lads who are just looking for a club to train with mid-week and also the lads who wish to get back into the game after a spell away. Feel free to contact us by texting/calling any of the committee members, details on www.realtdearg.ie

Hey,

Firstly thanks for all the support and good wishes throughout the year!

The B team recently lost their championship quarter final, massive progress when you consider they had to start a new panel this year and gave 6 players their first taste of league and championship hurling ever!

The A team is now in the championship semi final, to be played at 3pm on next Sunday week, 9th of October in Thomas Davis grounds in Tallaght. They also have a league final to play but this will now be played after the championship. We are playing Kilmacud Crokes in the semi so you will all appreciate the size of the task we face. It won't be their first team, or even their second, but a club of that size will never put out a bad team so any support for one of the newest clubs in the country would be massively welcome as we try to get through to our first championship final!

We are a club who will always have a team for the man who hasn't hurled for a while, or for the complete beginner but to maintain this we also wish to get our A team up the divisions as fast as possible. So hurlers of all levels are needed. We are more than happy for guys to just train with us mid-week if they are still hurling at home but if you live in Dublin South and would like to join us for training or playing(we also need people to get involved as managers, selectors and trainers) then do please contact us at realtdearg.hurlingclub@gmail.com or use the contact details on the committee section of www.realtdearg.ie

Thanks again for the support!
