Shinrone beat Belmont 1-18 to 2-13 in a match that could have gone either way. Thomas Hannon scoring 1-3 from play for Shinrone, Alan Egan with 2 goals for Belmont. Having beaten Rahan and now Belmont, Shinrone should claim 4th slot in the group.
Coolderry beat Brosna Gaels 6-18 to 0-13, having led 3-8 to 0-8 at half time. Possibly Coolderry's first win at OCP since they beat Rahan there in the 1953 County final?

Pat Donegan. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.
Coolderry
Birr
St Rynagh's
KK
Kinnitty
Clareen
Shinrone
Tullamore
Brosna Gaels
Lusmagh
Shamrocks
Thats the way Id rank them from what Ive seen soi far. No stand out contender to win the championship. It will be between the 4 listed above but will be all on the day. Any of the 4 could beat each other. Coolderry have some good quality players and some useless hatchet men which can be their problem. Birr we all know have skillful players and experience. Still think the younger lads are not good in tight battle. Rynaghs and KK on their day will beat anyone. Kinnitty arguably deserve to be in their. Still think they lack 5 or 6 good hurlers. A very dedicated bunch though.
Relegation looking like Shamrocks. Manager quit after shinrone game and now their manager could more than likely be playing against them in relegation playoff. Looks like their fecked. They have more talent than half the teams in the championship but seems to be no interest there in the club in general this year, a number have emigrated and others just wont play and some concentrating on making county football teams. Lusmagh have lost games but not badly it has to be said. I think they have enough interest if nothing else to survive. Although the Brosna Gaels amalgamation have had a few decent results last weekend showed the difference in hurling. They will battle all the way though. As with Tullamore and Shamrocks though the build up of games with football now will cause huge problems for the hurling. The dual clubs are at a terrible disadvantage.

The Coolderry Brosna Gaels scoreline was very flattering to Coolderry, in fairness to Brosna Gaels their keeper (think was only their sub keeper) was terrible, at fault for at least 3 if not 4 of the goals and the goals really killed this as a contest. Brosna Gaels matched Coolderry on points for most of the game and just didnt have the forwards in the end to make some chances count, Coolderry will be happy to have gotten a game in O'Connor Park and to have won so convincingly will bring huge confidence to the team should they be fixed to play there come the business end of the championship. However there are problems and such an easy game covered over a lot of weaknesses that a tougher game would have exposed.
Long John id love to know who the "useless hatchet men" are???
Apologies Weasel, you are indeed correct. Belmont I cant see challenging for honours but should be safe enough from relegation.
Back of the Net made a very valid couple of points. A few of the goals were fierce soft. Yes you are right about Brosna matching them fairly well for points. Thats Coolderry though, if they are playing a team thats struggling they go for goals, goals and more goals even when points would be easier option.
As for hatchet men, theres a few there alright over the last number of years, Corcorans in particular, not much hurling but alot of wild swinging. Kevin Brady for a county man can be a bit over the top in trying to take the hand off lads.
They have enough hurlers to win this championship but so have Birr, Rynaghs and KK. No teams is exceptional.
Is Big John Ryan back with Rynaghs again, I heard he came on and scored two goals against Tullamore and turned the game around. I thought he was hurling with Belmont last year?? Or was it young John Ryan, seen him hurling junior for Rynaghs about 2months ago and he didnt look in the best of shape, but he has the skills of the game, was a hot prospect a couple of year ago??
