Coolderry beat St. Malachy's 4-8 to 1-12 in the other semi final, played at Lusmagh this evening.
kinnittyman wrote:Clareen beat Birr in the Under 21 semi. A last puck of the ball goal to win it by a point. Very controversial as the goal came from a 21 yard free which was blocked and the resulting scramble led to the goal. Clareen actually got two goals which were more like "pick and drives" than hurling goals. James Mulrooney, Barry Harding and a young Murphy guy who is minor were the pick of the players in a disappointing game.

Ferbane and Rhode drew in Ferbane today, 0-10 apiece. Good game, well competed by both sides, some of the county lads were on duty though Niall Mac, Shane Sullivan and Anton were all missing as were any of the St Michael's under 21 players. Ferbane probably short five or six probable summer starters as well. Strong breeze took a big toll on the game but there were a few nice scores on both sides all the same. Badly needed on our side after two very poor games so far.

Ferbane 0-6 Ballycumber 0-8 and the game was just as bad as the score suggests.

Judging on their league results this year, they just haven't got the attitude or commitment anymore. They had a squad of only 18 players in Tubber on Wednesday evening. Six years ago they played Rhode in the county final and had a panel of 38 players named on the programme. That speaks for itself. Lucky to be playing Senior football this year, surving the relegation play-off last year. If they continue playing like this I can see them playing Intermediate football next year.

I certainly agree that they were lucky to stay senior last year and the lie of the fixtures list really played into their hands, however I wouldn't lay too much store by the fact that they only brought 18 lads to Tubber - Gracefield have a woeful track record of bringing small numbers to league fixtures any farther afield than Clara. Even when the club played well in the championship it still wouldn't have been uncommon to see 15 or 16 lads togged for a league fixture in Ferbane.
