Louth beating Wicklow means Offaly would have gone through if they won. Hard to win these games without being at full strength. Wicklow was the game to win and if we did, would have got through. Very close group aside from Dublin. If we had all players fit and available I'd be confident we would have got out of group. Couple of lads from this team might play senior for Offaly yet this year.

I don't think there mentally strong enough realistically they need a bit of downtime (not a trip to Newry 🤪)
Next year's league is a realistic target and good
Club championship mind you a good few will probably travel don't blame them your only young once.

Eye catching result tonight in the U-20 football championship. Tullamore 4-15 St Michael’s 0-01.

What clubs are in the St Michael's amalgam these days?

And Tullamore short 5 starters too . The score flatters Rhode Tullamore could have scored another 5 goals . The u 20 championship in group format is not working too many walkovers .

Historically, St. Michael's was always Rhode, St. Brigid's and Clonmore Harps - I can't see there being any change to that.

It's a bit of a glitch, in that this age bracket is a bit of a down year for Rhode, while a full strength Tullamore team at this age is incredibly strong - you have three or four guys who will probably be in an Offaly senior panel in the next year or two if they're not already, which is a fair amount for a club side. If by chance there were a few St. Michael's players missing on the night, they wouldn't necessarily have great depth, the lads you'd be drafting in to replace them would either be minors, or they might not even play regular football at adult level. Fellas like that would find the going pretty tough if the Cormac Egans and John Furlongs of this world were going at them.

As for the grade as a whole, it's a little bit of an anachronism, and if you were designing the GAA all over again, you wouldn't create it. The idea is that it's a developmental grade, but I think we can say with a fair degree of certainty that the likes of the two lads above have fairly outgrown it. I'd personally be in favour of extending the age to U-22 or something like that, but making a rule that once you've played more than three games of club senior championship, or three games for Offaly at U-20 level, then you're ineligible, because you don't need it. Now you're creating a grade which is truly about development, you're giving a chance for clubs that maybe need success that little bit more to pick up some silverware, and there should be less of a fixture congestion issue as well.
Kevin Egan. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.

Under 20 semi final between St Vincent’s and Tullamore fixed for Tuesday night just over 48 hours after players play in their respective adult finals on the Sunday and with St Vincent’s players on Ballycommon and Cappincur teams playing on Saturday also
Obviously nothing has been learned with regard to player welfare by the CCC in Offaly Gaa. Offaly Gaa Were very vocal at the start of the year with their senior footballers sighting player welfare for not fielding in the O Byrne cup.
There is no rush on this semi final been played as the other semi final is delayed cause of playoffs.
I believe clubs have pointed this out to the CCC but have been ignored
Serious questions need to asked and answered by the county board under the leadership of Michael Duignan as this isn’t the first time this has happened to this cohort of players.

Player welfare, particularly at u20 seems to be totally at odds with good practice. The amount of long term injuries that have been suffered is way too high for ot yo be normal. Both the hurlers and the footballers seem to be treated with little care to their physical wel being. Guarantee u20 hurlers will be back training within next two to three weeks without much of a break.

U 20 semi final
Tullamore 12pts
St Vincent’s 5 pts
Went along the lines that was expected St Vincent’s playing with 2 sweepers 3 at times . Scoreline flattered St Vincent’s who only scored once from play Tullamore butchered a few goal chances and the referee made a huge blunder not allowing advantage when a Tullamore player was clean thru on goals in the first half. A few Tullamore players were obviously feeling the effects of the celebrations but one player who wasn’t was John Furlong . He gave a masterclass again .
A pity for a county u 20 semi final there was no linesmen
I would imagine St Broughans will end up qualifying from the other side and they have a nice bit of talent at their disposal so that will be a good final.

John Furlong is a generational talent. Hopefully he stays injury free.

Tullamore 2.13
St Broughans 7pts
Tight enough first half with Harry Plunkett haven a really good day at the office on the frees and Jamie Guing kicking the frees for St Broughans only 3 points in it at half time . But then Tullamore killed the game off within 5 mins of the second half and we’re never in any trouble after that. Considering Tullamore missing Devon Henchy Cillian Martin and Cormac Egan that’s a decent result .
With only 4 starters overage next year Tullamore could do the 5 in row and with the 13s and 15s winning their championships and the minors one win away from it albeit they will be underdogs in that final there is no sign of the winning slowing down
The changing of the time the u 20 championship is on has really suited Tullamore as they are together and the amalgamations don’t get that opportunity now
I can remember a time when Tullamore were taking hammerings at u 20 level and these things are cyclical too it will dry up again but there is top class coaching going on in Tullamore at the moment

Now that Tullamore have gotten their act together caoching wise what do you see as cyclical?
Population, playing numbers, facilities, secondary schools on doorstep...? Enlighten us please?

you made one point that hit the nail on the head, suits Tullamore who are going to be in the latter stages of the senior and lads training together helpsdrastically whereas Bracknagh and walsh Island (if they have anyone ??) were finished weeks ago. But on the flip side, no real window to play it if you want to give players a few weeks off.
