Offaly Senior Football Team - Championship 2023

Post by Anonymous1 »

A very nice draw for Offaly in the Leinster championship for once.

Round 1:

Offaly vs Longford
Wicklow vs Carlow
Wexford vs Laois

Quarter finals:

Offaly/Longford vs Meath
Westmeath vs Louth
Wicklow/Carlow vs Kildare
Wexford/Laois vs Dublin

Semi final:

Offaly/Longford/Meath vs Westmeath/Louth
Wicklow/Carlow/Kildare vs Wexford/Laois/Dublin

Can we begin to dream of a provincial final?

With our recent championship record, I’m struggling to even dream of the first round.

Offaly don’t have a great championship record in recent years as per Doon Exile. We have found Longford a hard team to beat in League and Championship. If Offaly get past Longford, then it’s Meath under Colm O’Rourke. It is not a handy draw, let’s see how the league campaign goes for Liam Kearns and team.

Our form in recent championships doesnt make any draw look easy, yes we are avoiding Dublin and I supppose Kildare, but Meath under Colm O'Rourke will be a big ask of Offaly I think IF we get that far, our league form will tell us more, at a glance I dont see any legue type topic for footballers up here...interesting to see if new management will lift things for us, avoiding relegation of course is a must but equally getting out of Division 3 is important..we seemed to have bottomed out at arouund Division 3 for last few years, going up once..and back down...

Division 3 is our level presently. Getting up, and staying up will be a big challenge for Offaly Mgt. in 2023. The top spots are between Cavan and Westmeath from this pundit. Maybe Offaly will cause an upset in next year’s league.

Thats worrying. If your not confident of beating Longford, who would you be 100% confident of Offaly beating in championship?

Any word out of camp?

This seems level headed.

what a pity each year we (and it happens most counties) dont have some key player or other available, counties like Offaly need all their best available, and no doubt posters will come on here and say "our best is available if thats all that is available...anyword on Niall McNamee, we will hardly get another year as bit player out of him, I think if players are opting in they nearly need to be able to play a full game or at least start the game..impact subs is all very well but not much use if you are 7 or 8 points down, these players cannot be expected to turn such games around..he owes us nothing but each year we see these great players regressing ever so little..its part of the process...

BNM are you sure about the dates on above games? I was lead to believe our only Saturday game is away to Tipp.

The list I got was published a couple of weeks ago, so may well have changed since.
