A couple of midweek matches in the Division 1 Hurling League this week. Unfortunately only one was played.

Kilcormac / Killoughey (1st team) defeated Seir Kieran 2-17 to 0-17.

And Clara were given a walkover by Clodaigh Gaels.

Of the 14 games supposed to have been played by now 5 of them ended in walkovers. 35%. Poor poor stuff for a Division 1 league competition.

To put it in context the Clare Cup is the equivalent of our Division 1 League. 18 games fixed so far. 18 games played. Zero walkovers.

Regardless of the amount of matches left in the group stage of the Div 1 league this is how it seems the competition will fare out.

In Division 1A the Coolderry vs Birr game is the key match. A win for Birr or a draw and Birr will make the final from 1A. A Coolderry win will see Birr, Coolderry and Kinnitty more than likely enter a 3 way playoff for a place in the final. (Score difference cant be used as there has been a walkover given to one of these teams)

In 1B the game between Kilcormac/Killoughey (1st team) and Shinrone is a de facto leage semi-final.

Heard over the weekend that Birr will field their own U20 hurling team this year , and not go in with Carrig/Riverstown & Crinkill as St Brendan’s. Carrig/Riverstown & Crinkill want to put in their own team but apparently Birr have objected to this. Anyone any thoughts or info on this ??

Draws made tonight. All available on Offaly’s Twitter.

Interestingly the 2 championship favourites in hurling, St Rynaghs and Kilcormac/Killoughey are in the same group so one of them will have to negotiate a quarter-final.

I fancy Shinrone to top the other group and go straight to semi-final.

Group 1: St Rynaghs, Kilcormac/Killoughey, Birr, Kinnitty, Clodaigh Gaels

Group 2: Coolderry, Shinrone, Ballinamere, Belmont, Seir Kieran.

Dodge the thoughts are simple...plenty of posters here have said Birr should be on their own at the grade and I think they should.
Now they can look after their own young players to make sure they are developing them for adult level.
In relation to the objection I can see why they done its just protecting the future of the Birr club.

How are they allowed to object to crc gaels having an underage team?

How can Birr object to CRC having an u20 team when it’s nothing got to do with them?? Sounds petty.

Sounds petty alright but I think there is alot more to it than what outsiders can see.

What's the "good reason" ? they are separate clubs, sounds like birr are way out of order.

Basically birr are not going it alone they are stopping the st brendans team and forcing carrig and crinkle to either have no team for their u20s or go in with birr.

No that is not the case either look we are all talking about somehting we know very little about lets see the outcome of it.

On a side note love the groups for the hurling you would imagine the Banagher kk and Birr group should be straight forward for the 3 of them but the other group all teams could have a chance of getting through.
