Not every free is a foul, but equally not ever free given is wrong either. I think it gas now that kilkenny players are coming out now during their barren period in terms of all irelands. Between 2009 and 2013, they got away with murder.
Very true.

The two of them probably have 20 all Ireland’s between them and have had great battles through the years with Tipp when it was good to watch. Power in particular describing how the games are ‘not enjoyable to watch anymore and that it’s worrying’.

But hey what would they know about hurling!
They're concerned for the overall state of hurling, or just concerned that Kilkenny, who have roughed up all comers for the past two decades may fall foul of any efforts to clamp down on fouling.

Has anyone rung up Eddie Keher to see what he thinks?

Contesting 7 of the last 10 all Ireland finals not exactly a barren period!

I look forward to lads posting stats here this summer rather than any actual decent play.

Haven't won one since 2015. That for kilkenny, is a long time.

they went 1983 to 1992 and then 1993 until 2002 which was some of the longest they ever went if I remember right...isnt it hard to believe its 2015 since they won an All Ireland though...they got away with murder too...Eddie Brennan on Seamus Hickey in 2007 was a dissgrace in the first minute..the scored 2-05 in the first ten minutes..Limerick won the rest of the game comfortably but Hickey had a poor game by his standards of that year, no doubt as a result of Brennans actions...no one to floor Brennan though..thats the problem...

To me Brennan did nothing wrong.
It was a perfectly timed hit. The problem was Brennan was a man and Hickey a boy.
Hickey naively came up the line with the ball alomost looking for contact. Brenban didn't need a second invitation and executed it perfectly, just like Padraig Maher's hit on Joe Canning a few years ago.

Round four in a series of five on Sunday, where Offaly again will face a team with a higher championship ranking (Joe McDonagh) than they do (you know yourself). And Down were impressive in their first half against Kerry before a second half fade out.

On the face of it, Offaly have ruthlessly destroyed their previous three Joe McDonagh standard opponents, accumulating a +48 scoring difference. But let’s take a closer look.

Against Meath, Offaly accumulated 13 points of their 16 point winning margin during the second quarter. Against Kerry, Offaly accumulated 14 of their 21 points winning margin in the same quarter. And against Carlow, Offaly ran up 6 of their 11 point winning margin during the third quarter.

So assuming the lengths of each quarter are divided equally (and I know they are not), Offaly have ran up 33 of that 48 points in roughly 54 minutes out of a total of 210 minutes.

To be fair, Offaly have been ruthless during those three ‘purple patch’ quarters, where they have forced the opposition to continually puck out, and have dominated the opposition’s puckouts. It’s refreshing to watch Offaly forwards turn around and readjust their positions in order to discommode the opposition goalkeeper. And while it didn’t occur during one of the ‘ruthless’ quarters, Oisín Kelly’s brilliant turnover of a Carlow short puckout was great to see.

As far as I can see, Offaly will be fine once the opposition are pucking out. But Offaly have struggled on their own puckout, where they really need to get a better return.

Newry last November was a bitter pill to swallow, so you’d expect Offaly to be well prepared here.

A lot of hard work done to be in this position. Hoping the lads can make the most of the opportunity presented.

Best wishes to all involved.

Are you saying points scored in other 'quarters' dont count towards the winning margin?

How much of Offaly's total score (not score difference) has been scored in the 3rd quarter?

Best of luck today to the players and management. A super day for a game of hurling and it’s a shame ye can’t get the big crowd in to support ye.

Success starts at underage and with promotion finals at stake this week and next this is evident from the teams selected. With Leinster finals from 2020 still on the cards lets hope this is the first part of the chapter today.
