Intercounty underage matches are off till further notice. Probably be February at the earliest before they are played if they are at all unfortunately.

Curious as to the impact of 2020 season running into 2021 will have on 2021 crop. Do Offaly start to plan for 2021 with 2 squads running side by side? Do they hold all activities for the new crop until the 2020 side are done? Do new management teams get appointed (even if it is just reinstating the 2020 teams)?

Also, presume this has a decent impact on finances for the county board. Not an easy situation to manage.

It's very disappointing to see these games being postponed. Presumably squad training has had to be abandoned for the time being? Once again young people engaging in healthy activity in a monitored environment are being asked to put their sporting lives on hold. This is all the more baffling in the context of schools remaining open (which in my opinion is the correct course of action).

If you think about it, by playing the Leinster finals , 2 of the 4 teams would have been finished by next Sunday.
And perhaps GAA could have enforced a 2 week break as Ulster still has to be played, (football anyway).

But now our minors and Meath and Kilkenny will probably have over the next 2 weeks,up to 20 gatherings for training of 40 people.

The key is to keep people apart at the moment.

However, in the absence of games it is crucial that these age groups have the opportunity to train together (albeit it in smaller groups).
Why the GAA was so succesful with senior intercounty was that the knock out at this time halved the numbers of teams each week.

Difficult one given the huge jump in numbers.

The point regards the 21 crop is a fair one, and they are suffering a loss as club is on hold, schools are on hold probably till February and then all will be in full swing potentially. Tough one for the GAA to manage, but I think the Govt should have allowed the games to be played off.

I think there's a Leinster final the Wed in Mullingar?
And another one at the weekend in Portlaoise?

Good luck to both the hurlers and the footballers. There has been a great effort put in by both management teams to get both squads right for the finals, a, and either way they have had a great opportunity.

Meath and Kilkenny will be tough nuts to crack, Meath having beaten Dublin, Westmeath and Laois but Offaly are well organised with good forwards.
Hurlers had easier route than Kilkenny, but have every chance of causing an upset here too.

Anyway great to see both panels getting their big opportunity, give it socks lads!

Hard luck to the minors last night, tight game, lads will learn from mistakes or decisions made under pressure. Great effort from both sides in the heat with limited game time behind them recently.

Few things cost us and they can only learn from the experience, well done to the players and management and good luck to the 2 lads involved in the hurling on Saturday.

If that late shot for goal had been a few inches to the left, this team would be acclaimed as a golden generation and the future of Offaly football.
Let's hope this group of players realise they're a match for any elite county and keep developing.

National Foothall league Div 2 predictions

Post by Doon Exile »

Tough day for the Offaly minors today v Kildare. Signs were ominous after 5 minutes when we struggled to get out of our own half despite playing with a very strong breeze. Still, Kildare were a far superior physical side to us and we were always going to be up against it. Plenty of footballers too. Keep an eye out for the name Ryan Sinkey in the future!!!

Apart from Donal Shirley and maybe cillian bourke very little to pick out from Offaly.

Maybe Kildare are very very good. But I fear not having had Development Squads for two years is going to hamper Offaly for a few years. Offaly need them more than anyone. Nobody's fault, it's the pandemic.

Kildare were and are a good team. A lot of big scores put up in the Leinster MFC today so it’ll be interesting to see how they fare out but on today’s performance they should have no fear of anyone.

Covid was the same for everyone in terms of dev squads so wouldn't think it affected Offaly any more or less than anyone else. Hopefully the lads recover from disappointment today. They have 2 group games left I think and will probably need to get 2 good results to get through group.

2 years in a row now our minors have not been great after a very good 2020 team narrowly lost the final. Sometimes in smaller counties, you are just not as strong as other years, but that said, lads will be disappointed with today's performance. That minor group (2020) will backbone the u20s this year, a team that has a great chance of winning Leinster again.

0-05 is not going to win you anything..that said I see poor ould Louth only got 1-01 against Dublin...I was surprised at the Offaly team but no doubt those involved know best as they say...
