Home advantage for Antrim. Sounds like it will be Ballycastle.

What approach will Offaly take? If we play the same tactics as the Kilkenny game, it shows that the management don't believe we underachieved, or that there is more in the tank.
I'm sure there is a sub-conscious and unspoken temptation to bow out of the championship quietly in a game that no-one in the media will be interested in and only a few dozen Offaly people will be at.

I'd still be hopeful that we can go up there and win and be brave enough to face one of the bigger guns in the next round.

Do they definitely have home advantage?

I just heard that all munster teams where drawn first and home advantage has yet to be confirmed?

You could be right, Kaiser. It's bothering me that all the Munster teams (including Antrim, who became a Munster team for 5 minutes) appeared to be placed at home.

Perhaps that is not the case. Fixtures will be issued in the early afternoon, so we'll know then.

I was listening to the draw, and it was certainly made clear that the first named team had home advantage. There was 4 pots. The Leinster Teams were in Pot A, the Munster Teams in Pot B, and the Round Robin guys (Laois and Antrim) in Pot C.

Michael Duignan drew a Team from Pot C, and a Team from Pot A first, to ensure a Round Robin v Leinster fixture. Both of these were put in Pot D, unopened, and then Antrim were opened first, followed by Offaly.

Then he drew Pot C and Pot B to ensure a Round Robin v Munster fixture, and when these were put in Pod D, Waterford were opened first, then Laois.

After that it was straight Pot A and Pot B teams put into Pot C and drawn out, which gave us Tipperary v Galway/Kilkenny, and Clare v Wexford.

You could hear the foostering as they put the balls into the Pot D, so I'm fairly sure that's what happened. Of course there's no guarantee they were keeping an eye out for the Munster balls. It was funny because Padraig Lodge kept describing the lad drawing out of Pot D 'Looking away'. Radio is really not the best medium to alleviate conspiracy theories :D

I think the venues and dats is just a formality. Will Clare play in Ennis or ask to transfer it to Thurles or somewhere. I'm sure Antrim, Waterford and Tipp will want to stay where they are.

Yea, I see Pauric Lodge has confirmed the process on Twitland.

Will Ballycastle require a ground inspection? All very well playing NHL fixtures there, but this is championship.

I'd imagine Klare will play in Innis. Played Dublin there two years ago, Galway too in recent years.

its as good a draw as we could get .
at least we avoided clare tipperary or galway
atitude will be very important i hope we forget totally about sweepers and go out man up and play lads in there best spot . paul shields did huge damage the last day from centre forward . i hope g healion d kenny and c egan will be back so rory can go outfield and manage the game from there .
the team selection will tell us has b whelahan learnt anything from the kilkenny game surely he cant start c parlon b harding in the half back line again? surely j bergin has to be full forward and c mahon has to be centre forward.
i think the team has to be built around these guys
j demsey
n wynne d kenny [ c doughan ??]
r hanniffy g healion d morkam
[ d mooney ??] c egan
[ c slevin??] c mahon d currams
b carroll j bergin s dooley
i know it a risk putting young doughan at corner back but he is a class act and we have a big problem there .
both mooney and slevin play there best hurling for there clubs in those spots .
i think it not going to be easy especially up north but if we come out of this with a win it will be a first step after nolan park .
best of luck lads

Thanks azoffaly for the breakdown of how it happened. Still a little bit dodgy.

I would agree plain of herbs. The GAA will hardly let a championship happen up there. It wouldn't be fair to travelling fans either.

sam88885a - i heard offaly played wexford in a challenge and kenny, healion and egan all played. kenny played at full forward, i dont know what brian whelan is thinkin with this decision.

Hopefully a few of the under 21's will go well on Wednesday night. We have to pick our strongest team and play 15 on 15. Every man play there position and go hell for leather.

My team would be:

Dempsey
McDonald
Kenny
Rigney
K Brady
Hanniffy
Morkan
Currams
Parlon
Egan
Mahon
Carroll
Dooley
Bergin
Quirke

Offaly lost home advantage for qualifier games in 2005 when O'Connor Park was under development and other club grounds weren't deemed suitable.
I wonder how strict would they be on Ballycastle which doesn't have much in the line of facilities?

Suggestion on twitter from Antrim sources is that the game is fixed for Ballycastle this Sunday at 2pm.

Ballycastle, Sunday. 2pm. According to Ballycastle MCQuillan Gaa Twitter.

about 4 and 30 mins driving from Tullamore.
2 hours watching the match and 4 hour 30 mins back.
11 hours without adding in having something to eat and other stops.

Lets hope the players go up the day before so their not sitting on a bus on Sunday morning.

I listened to the Draw "Live". Michael Duignan picked the teams for each match-up, placing them into a separate bowl. But it was Tony O'Keefe (the CCCC Chairman) who did the next pick for Home/Away in each tie. Anyone know where Mr. O'Keefe is from? It's certainly a bit surprising/suspicious/downright-under-hand/insert-conspiracy-here that every Leinster team is drawn away.

O'keeffe is from Kerry.

When the team is named it will tell us if Whelehan has learned his lesson for the Kilkenny game.
I love to see him name the something along the line of
Dempsey.
Wynne, Healion, Mc Donnald.
Morkan, Kenny, Gardiner/M Egan.
Hanniffy, Rigney.
Egan, Mahon, Parlon/Cleary
Carroll, Bergin/Curmins, Quirke/Dooley.

The big question. Is Kenny and Egan's fit.
