Certainly there is no shortage of confidence in this Wexford team. The initial line was 1/16, and that was heavily backed I'm told. Now 1/25, with an eleven point handicap. Looking through the team that's been named, it's hard to imagine them being eleven point underdogs, but there you go.

Yea, making the spin down alright. Something about the U21 grade, the midweek summer evenings, the spin, that I find appealing.

That, and it being very unlikely I will be able to make the trip north on Sunday.

Fair play. Hope it goes well. In one way its set up very nicely for an Offaly upset.

The 11point handicap is very appealing in fairness or is it just heart guiding the head? Think I'll go mad and stick a few euro on the win 9/1. Come on the faithful.

This is a bloody disgrace of a match. Since they went a man down we haven't scored. We are so tactically inept it's actually criminal

I'm sick - that was a shocking 1st half of hurling from Offaly. Can't believe how bad we are. The game itself is slow and poor and we can't score more than 2 pts. Clare would be at least another 10 pts up on us at this stage!

Listening to it on Wexford Radio. Down by 13 points (2-9, 2points) at half time with Offaly forward, Dolan sent off just before 1/2 time, which evens up the numbers at 14 players each. Wexford have played the majority of the game with 14 players, with their man getting marching orders after 8 mins.

It is at moments like this in the confines of a dressing room with back's to the wall that a team needs to draw on their resolve from a Winter of preparation and years of unity as a group. With that not an option, I'm not sure where we go from here. Pub maybe?

We played practically all that 1st half with an extra man and have been cleaned out.
Given our disdain for precision possession hurling, Offaly are probably the worst equipped county to put an extra man to use.
It's still hit and hope as always or 'moving the ball quickly' as the apologists for aimless hitting try to brand it.

We're unable to win any puckouts or breaks, the stuff that every other county has realised are the vital skills.
Hard to blame the players for growing up in a hurling time warp.

A great little county...

The Offaly County Board should all resign with immediate effect. No more apologist BULLSH1T which pollutes this place. This is a utter disgrace what is happening Offaly hurling. People need to be held accountable or Offaly hurling is dead for ever.

Better from Offaly but Wexford stopped hurling 15 mins ago. Don't know why they took off Mulrooney - he was trying hard.

We've matched Wexford when it was 15 v 15 and 14 v 14 :? . Got destroyed with the extra man.

Another major problem for Offaly is how our teams have little ability to tackle the man in possession bar swiping the hurley at him.
We desperately outside help to improve the coaching of these fundamentals.

100% BnM

The extra man actually hurt us as Wexford took a forward out, crowded out our forwards and created more space up front. Now if Offaly were being smart we would have played the extra man in midfield and played short passes to midfield and then create the overlap in our half forward line.

Instead we kept the extra man in our half back line he ran around aimlessly trying to get to the ball before anyone else and failing, when we did get the ball we hit it long, slow and high. Having said all that our forwards look like they were taking tackling classes from a rugby team.

It's not new we know we have problems with our forwards fielding, work rate and tackling and most importantly tactics. It would be great if someone on the county board noticed aswell and tried to do something about it.

Yeah, with an extra man you need your forwards to drag their markers into the corners and pull them away from the middle.
Make the space count. Bunched rucks of 6 vs 5 give you a negligible advantage.
Amazing how even high profile senior teams allow themselves to be dragged into a bunched up mire
