FETAC course on Sport and Recreation

Post by Lone Shark »

I received an email highlighting a course which may be of interest to some individuals or indeed clubs starting in February. The information and contact details are below, it definitely could be worthwhile option for some individuals if they can make it fit into their schedules.

County Offaly VEC are going to run a FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Sport and Recreation. The Certificate will have a focus on Sports and Recreation studies, Exercise and Fitness, Occupational First Aid, Leadership skills and will also involve practical modules in Gaelic Football, Hurling and Soccer Coaching. Participants on the course can choose to focus on one sport or all three. The course will run three days a week (mon, tues and wed 9.30am – 1.30pm). It is due to start on Feb 14th in St Rynaghs College of Further Education (the old Banagher College) and successful participants will be assessed in Jan 2012 (places are limited to 20).

Some participants will use what they learn for developing their skills re: training teams whilst others might use it as stepping stone into Third Level. Offaly VEC are currently working with a couple of Third Level Institutes to explore progression options and while nothing is set in stone right now, the VEC are happy to work with course participants to help them move on from this in whatever way they would like best.
