Tipsters Competition R12 + Knockout results

Post by Lone Shark »

There’s definitely an art to this Tipsters carry on if the McCormack Cup semi finals are anything to go by. In the four years of this competition’s existence there have been three winners of the main knockout event – and two of them are now set to contest the final. Swiftpost is the defending champion and he advances on a scoreline of 10-8, the decisive result being Kinnitty’s win over Belmont, where Greatdayfortheparish plumped for the outsiders.

He now meets Rynaghs Biffo, for whom location in Australia is no barrier to another successful campaign. RB and Bazza disagreed on several results, but between all, it was the champion from 2005 and 2006 who came out on top, also 10-8.

In the Regan Cup semis, Phoenix continued a blistering run of form with a 12-10 win over Muck Savage, with the decisive game there being the relegation playoff between Lusmagh and Ballyskenach. Lusmagh’s five goal blitz was enough for Phoenix to edge his way into the final, while he also takes over from DD at the top of the league. Had Francis Kerrigan not hit that late winner for Tullamore, it could easily have been another draw and a much bigger lead.

DD’s drop to second in the table wasn’t the only bad news as he also fell to yours truly in the “scrappiest” of the four ties. A 6-4 win wasn’t exactly the stuff dreams are made of, but with both of us siding with Rynaghs, Daingean and Ballyskenach, and neither of our outsiders coming in, the match hinged on the Intermediate semi, and Brosna Gaels’ win gives me a chance to finally get on this roll of honour!

In the league, Phoenix takes over at the top as mentioned with Hocker and to a lesser extent Muck Savage hanging in there, but it’s hard to see anyone else joining the party. Top score of the week was Kemo Sabe’s 16, largely driven by his loyal selection of Tullamore to beat Rynaghs – the only such choice out of all the posts.

Full league table is now as follows:
