Predictions for senior games
Tullamore vs Cappincur. Tullamore by 7
Ferbane vs Shamrocks. Ferbane by 2
Rhode vs Clara Rhode by 6
Edenderry vs Durrow. Edenderry by 2
Walkovers in Senior B??

Just call it Intermediate for Christ’s sake. Mightn’t seem as bad.

Also the Ballycumber vs Gracefield game is now just a challenge match to all extents and purposes. Rynaghs have actually brought the Senior B Championship into disrepute to be quite honest.

Doon giving a walkover now too to Ballinagar in Junior A. Two first teams giving walkovers in championship…unheard of.

What is the penalty for giving a walkover in championship?

Are Durrow not gone either way? Weak score average? What are score averages out of interest with Clara Durrow and Edenderry?

If Rhode beat Clara as expected, all remaining three teams can finish on two pts if Durrow beat Edenderry. They need to win to have chance. Edenderry likely through in 2nd or 3rd whether win or lose.

Didn’t Shannonbridge give Ferbane a walk over too against Ferbane? What’s going on in Offaly where clubs like Doon, Ryangh’s and Shannonbridge have 1 team and can’t field a 15 for the championship?
Is it time for some of these clubs to start to amalgamate?

Shannonbridge gave a walkover because of covid seemingly and in fairness they fulfill fixtures in general. The Doon and Rynaghs walkovers are worrying in that it's happened a few times this year across league and championship. Rynaghs will have a strong minor team next year based on last year's under 15 so hopefully they can keep them lads playing. That group are also strong in hurling so no guarantees they stay playing football after minor.

Clonmore Harps also gave a walkover today. That is 3 first teams in the county giving walkovers in one round of championship. Very very concerning.

Senior Football
All went pretty much according to expectations this week. Suppose only real surprise was the ease with which Edenderry beat Durrow. Relegation between Durrow and Cappincur will be close and one both teams will feel they can win. Will Cappincurs experience of these days tell again or can Durrow finally send Cappincur down after some extraordinary feats by Cappincur in recent years. Have a fancy for Cappincur to dig it out.

Clara put up better display against Rhode than previously which they needed to but it will give them confidence going in to quarter final. Ferbane accounted for Shamrocks as expected who apparently lost Kieran Dolan to a serious injury.

Ferbane and Edenderry will be expected to win through to quarter finals v Rhode and Tullamore but both Clara and Shamrocks are both capable of upsetting expectation, particularly against these teams if they fire. Clara never feared Ferbane and local aspect to it always closes the perceived gap a bit. Edenderry struggled to beat Shamrocks last year in championship and this will give Shamrocks confidence to believe they can win.

Two weeks will reveal more and give new senior management team an opportunity to assess county players at club level.

Ferbane got the win a game of football that was entertaining but ultimately pales into insignificance when we consider the injury to Kieran Dolan , Kieran was having a brilliant game when he sustained the knee injury. It looked bad and hopefully he recovers. Best wishes to him,
3-14 to 3-11
Joe missed a penalty for Ferbane and they dominated the second half with Leon fox to the fore . Shamrocks will be disappointed in that they had Dunne and Bryant going well and never got them enough ball, dunne 1-7 , 1-2 from play and jack Bryant 1-1 from play. They suffered from a lack of ball in second half,

Chand joe and Cathal did ok at times and will improve, ultimately Ferbane are a better team and will be more competitive later in campaign. Ferbane are better balanced with better players in most positions.

I am thinking Ferbane might be dark horses yet. Fox , the Flynns , the Bally’s and of course cheers and joe

Was at the Ferbane vs Shamrocks game too. Shamrocks flew out of the blocks and were on track to win this one quite comfortably leading 2-03 to 0-03 after 22 minutes until a freak injury happened to Kieran Dolan, he went up to contest a ball and whatever way he landed, his knee unfortunately gave way. All we can do is wish him well in his recovery however I must say it was disgraceful that it took an hour for an ambulance to arrive, not least at a Senior game.

It was a totally different game after the restart with Ferbane’s subs making a huge difference and the moving of Kevin Nugent to fullback nullified a lot of Shamrocks threat in the full forward line.

Shamrocks did level the game up with ten minutes to go but Ferbane pushed on and it closed it out. Ultimately, Ferbane deserved their win but they looked a beaten docket until the lengthy stoppage.

Ferbane face Clara in the QF and Shamrocks face Edenderry. I can’t see any way Clara beat Ferbane and while it’ll be close, I’d still expect Edenderry to overcome Shamrocks setting up two mouthwatering semis of Ferbane vs Rhode and Edenderry vs Tullamore.
