Re: Offaly Senior A Hurling Championship 2023

The rationale to change the rule, Tank? I don't know, and I only discovered in early 2020 that it had changed. It would presumably have required a motion at Convention. A few years before the introduction of the split season, there was a plan to commence the Junior championships before the Senior ch...

Re: Offaly Senior A Hurling Championship 2023

Frankthetank is right. It wouldn't be unusual for Lusmagh to use just 17 or 18 of 19 Senior players in a year. I notice most Senior A clubs used three subs last Friday evening. Lusmagh used none. The old system where seven players were regraded suited the smaller clubs better. I could be wrong, but ...

Re: Offaly Senior A Hurling Championship 2023

I love a good mystery. A mysterious 'C' appears to have lined out at centre half-back for the champions. Sounds like one of those Brazilian soccer players. And four in the full-forward line. I wasn't there, but that could lead to bunching. But shur, they know themselves, I suppose.

Nope.

Both lined out as selected. James Geraghty and Alex Kavanagh came on for Kilcormac.

Re: On this day 25 years ago

Can’t agree with you there, Brack, so I pulled the Dooley book to see what they said. The recovery owed far far more than merely a bit of shouting and roaring and going out to prove Kay-tin wrong. Joe: “Babs let him (trainer Johnny Murray) take most of the training sessions and took tings easy himse...

Re: On this day 25 years ago

What Babser said – taken from Vincent Hogan’s piece in the following day’s Irish Independent . Journalists focussed on the ‘sheep’ reference, but there was much more than that. Absolving himself of any blame, of course. And I'd forgotten he insulted Antrim in the middle of the whole thing. "Cou...

A bit of a Senior B round 1 form guide LUSMAGH v KILCORMAC-KILLOUGHEY An annual event now. In 2020, Kilcormac-Killoughey won 2-18 to 0-21 In 2021, Lusmagh won 3-22 to 2-8 And last year, Kilcormac-Killoughey won 3-23 to 1-20 SHAMROCKS v BIRR Shamrocks won 2014’s Intermediate group game 1-20 to 0-16 S...

Re: Offaly Senior A Hurling Championship 2023

A sort of (but not much of) a formguide for round 1 ST RYNAGH’S v TULLAMORE In 2014, St Rynagh’s won 1-12 to 0-13 In 2015, St Rynagh’s won 1-14 to 2-10 In 2017, St Rynagh’s won 3-21 to 0-12 Tullamore’s last win was in 2009’s quarter-final. Fixtures secretaries will come and go, but in each of the la...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2023

What I want to know is - why is east Offaly (north Portarlington, Clonbullogue and the like) called north Offaly?

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2023

Stop stirring shit again. You know darn well Offaly had a doctor on duty. And you know who he was too.
He was Tipperary's doctor not that long ago.
private joker wrote: Sat Jun 17, 2023 11:04 pm Was there no doctor again? Every team is supposed to have a doctor as part of the match day mgt. U20s were the same, no doctor vs galway.

Re: U20 hurlers 23

Well, Ruairi Kelly and Shane Rigney were Minor last year, so they’ve another two years at this grade. I’m not sure about Barry Egan and Ailbe Watkins, but neither were on the 2021 Minors. I hadn't thought along those lines, but Offaly finished the day with eight U18s on the field. Incidentally, that...

Re: U20 hurlers 23

I watched it again last night myself. I can only guess, but I’d say the verbal sledging was on a different level altogether. The lad patting Adam Screeney on the top of the head as he was preparing to take a free in the second half was something else. During a break in play around about the 20th min...

Re: U20 hurlers 23

Cork were the more physical side. But taking a lad out in the air, or swiping across a lad’s adams apple with the blade of the hurl isn’t physical. That’s dirt. However, I don’t buy into this notion that the team playing with 14 men always loses. Because that doesn’t happen. Item 1: in last year’s M...
