Re: Offaly U20 footballers 2023

There's a lot of good stuff in that post from Jimbob, much of it inarguable. There's no doubt that an U-20 competition run through the summer is an advantage to standalone clubs, for all the reasons mentioned there. However the nature of U-20 competitions in hurling and football are such that there...

Re: Offaly Senior Footballers 2024

Weren't we in the top 4 in Leinster last year and a kick of a ball from being in the top two? Didn't we beat Meath en route to that top 4? Didn't we get out of division 3 in 2021, come within a whisker of staying in division 2 in 2022 and go into the final day last year with a chance of promotion? ...

Re: Offaly U20 footballers 2023

To be fair I think both posters have relevant points here. The timing of the competition is a huge factor and does benefit Tullamore significantly or standalone clubs. The only teams that are likely to compete with Tullamore in U20 are amalgamations - ie St Broughans, St Manchans, Na Fianna, St Vinc...

Re: Offaly Senior Footballers 2024

Fully agree with Jimbob. There have been lots of years in the last 15 years where Offaly have been in the top 3 or 4 teams in Leinster at minor and U20/21. Dublin are the only county significantly better than us in that time. Kildare and Meath a fraction better, but always beatable by a strong Offa...

Re: Offaly Senior A Hurling Championship 2023

Kilcormacs first 6 or 7 subs are equally as good as their 9th - 15th best player. Ballygunner is great game to get as they will be favourites for All Ireland now - probably followed by Limericks Na Piarsaigh and St Thomas' Galway. Leinster is wide open now for Kilcormac to contest it with Ballyhale ...

Re: Offaly Senior Footballers 2024

What would the expectations be for next year? For what its worth here is what I think. For too long now we have been making up excuses that we are in transition and I'm hearing it again these days. That's absolute rubbish. We are not in transition or at least should not be. Unlike underage hurling, ...

Re: Club football championship 2023

For the forward talent at their disposal, they are falling short of where they could be I'd feel. To score only 2 pts in second half at home after a month lay off and lots of prep time is fairly poor. They should have been mad keen to go at Summerhill today at home, but showed same old failings. The...

Re: Club football championship 2023

Ballycommon won Junior A in 2017 and were intermediate then until last year. Their second team may have been Junior B in 2017.

Re: Junior A Hurling Championship 2023

You'd imagine Ballinamere will account for Clodiagh Gaels given results to date. However, beyond that I think Brosna Gaels would be too strong for a Ballinamere second team. Unlike other years, Brosna Gaels football teams are all out reasonably early and so they will have way more prep and player ac...

Re: Junior A Hurling Championship 2023

So if the original Sunday fixture is only changed because of a request from Clodiagh Gaels to move the game and facilitated for them by co board, and home venue then given to Ballinamere, based on toss of coin and fact they have lights to facilitate mid week fixture, then that is due to ML Duignan a...

Re: Club football championship 2023

Ferbane lost that game on the sideline. To leave Cian Johnson sitting on the bench is astonishing to say the least, kicked 0-3 in the second half from scraps while the rest of the team kicked 0-3 combined. Not so sure about that one. Johnson lost a couple of balls and got turned over at least twice...

Re: Club football championship 2023

Tullamore win today by 1-5 to 0-6, in a poor game. The winners led 1-2 to 0-3 at the break. Cian Johnson scored 0-3 for Ferbane in the second half, but Tullamore got a late free to win by 2 points. Ferbane lost that game on the sideline. To leave Cian Johnson sitting on the bench is astonishing to ...

Re: Club football championship 2023

Clonbullogue and Ballycommon in Senior B final. Good teams playing well for each other. Both teams well balanced and play good brand of football. Ballycommon very impressive in 2nd game but to be fair, Cappincur were poor and too reliant on elder statesmen. Declan Kelly likely to pick up few new pla...

Re: Proposed change to age grades at both county and club level

I saw that article, and I think the county board's logic is by say splitting up amalgamations they would get greater participation in each club, so I think the idea would be that in say for example (Erin Rovers I think were mentioned in the article ), if there were 8 lads at under 10 from Erin Rove...

Re: Offaly Senior A Hurling Championship 2023

Certainly an interesting draw. I think both Shinrone and Ballinamere will be happy and feel they both have great chance. I'd lean towards Shinrone here on this one with experience etc. They will have learned a lot from Ballinamere in recent group match and with revenge factor at play, they will be r...
