Re: 50 years on, how Offaly won the 1971 All-Ireland final

P.J. McGrath RIP, from Mayo died this week. He was the referee for the 1982 SFC Final, when Offaly ended Kerry’s 5 in a row attempt. A game always associated with Seamus Darby, and did he push Tommy Doyle or not. May he rest in piece.

Re: Maughan & O' Malley / Dunne & Maher

and if LOI soccer can come back, surely schoolboys league can resume training at the very least...I think we will get 6/8 more weeks of lockdown co-operation after the 5th April if needs be, it will be a tough ask but I think people will adhere in general, there after, if the vaccine is not up an r...

Re: Maughan & O' Malley / Dunne & Maher

anyway, to pull us all back a little more football matters, does anyone think the league will get going at all..middle of March now... I think it would be better to park the league for this year, and run off the championships. We have a half promise of some bit of normality, including sporting acti...

Re: Maughan & O' Malley / Dunne & Maher

Didn’t this forum begin as a discussion on Offaly football management, and panelists?
We have veered off the main point I think.

Re: Offaly v Galway. All Ireland SF Final 1971

I recall the rain that day, but never minded on the day, of course I was a lot younger then. Like ryot I can still see the net bulging at the Canal End, after Murt Connor’s goal. Every fan was on the pitch celebrating after the game. There was even a song composed in memory of that famous win. It wa...

Offaly v Galway. All Ireland SF Final 1971

It will be 50 years this September, since Offaly won their first All Ireland title, beating Galway by 1-14 to 2-8, on a wet September Sunday. Willie Bryan was captain on that historic day. Anyone have memories of that very wet, but joyous day for us Offaly folk. 10 years earlier Offaly lost their fi...

Re: Defunct clubs

Just seen a club in Cork called redmonds has now ceased to keep operating. Just wondering is there many clubs through the years to disband in offaly? Just seen a few names on the roll of honour like quarrymount that obviously don't exist anymore. Usually plain of the herbs good for this info Quarry...

Re: Maughan & O' Malley / Dunne & Maher

It's a sad day when we are left clutching at straws like Holohan's liking for Gaelic football for the youth of this country to be 'allowed' to mix together and engage in a healthy activity like play sport. We are worse as adults for going along with it. Is the alternative to ape the morons who demo...

Re: Maughan & O' Malley / Dunne & Maher

the NFL is our best chance of a few games and push for promotion, as things are looking its hard to see what can be played first if we ever do get back..the League would be a kind introduction for most teams...the championship is not going to get most lesser teams anywhere far..I cannot understand ...

Kiladangan is geographical big, population small. Two primary schools with one with children coming from nenagh to attend. Tiny village who put the work in with the help of brilliant chairmen. I can't understand why there aren't 2 clubs in Tullamore, there are 2 senior clubs in Athlone and 3 in Mullingar, Tullamore a similar sized town. With the population in Tullamore, they should have 3 minor teams, surely they are losing players .... Athlone and Mullingar have bigger populations than ...
