Re: Offaly Senior A Hurling Championship 2023
Well God bless you, Bracknaghboy! 2022 attendance was just over 5,100. This figure was announced at the game. (That media figure quoted by POTH is incorrect figure given by the media). Official figure announced at the final in 2022 was 5,793 . I've it scribbled on last years final program. Not sure ...

2021 attendance was just over 2,900.

Re: Offaly Senior A Hurling Championship 2023
Attendance reported in the media was 5,793, and the receipts reported in the Board's Annual Report published at Convention was €59,327.

Heard the figure 4,000 would that be roughly correct?

Re: Offaly Senior B Hurling Championship 2023
Yes. Fake news. Per competition regulations, those who took the field today are regraded to Senior for next year. But the usual regrading rules apply. Up to around 2018 this would mean they could regrade seven down a grade. Since then, clubs select a list of 18 Seniors and the rest can play at a low...

Re: Offaly Senior A Hurling Championship 2023
And there it is, article 2 in the Adult Championship regulations. “Players who played on the winning team in Senior B, Intermediate and Junior championship finals shall be considered to be of Senior, Senior B and Intermediate status respectively for the following year’s championships, unless they ha...

Re: Proposed change to age grades at both county and club level
Yes, I did include Cappincur, and I note the points you make. I admit I wouldn’t be overly familiar with the area, but I do recall Cappincur were a driver of St Vincent’s successes of a decade ago, and I find it hard to believe the population of the area would have grown old in the meantime, with re...

Re: Proposed change to age grades at both county and club level
Having read the report on the exchange at the County Board meeting, I got the impression that is what the board are at, focussing on the larger clubs. Cappincur being the case in point. It beggars belief that Cappincur can claim not to have numbers at Go Games level, when Ballinamere-Durrow (to pick...

Re: Junior A Hurling Championship 2023
Kilcormac's interest in Junior B was ended by Gracefield last Sunday. So the Grand Slam aspirations are over for this year. And no, the same teams opposing each other in championship finals in three adult grades has never happened here. Are KK still in the junior B? If so, there’s a fair chance chan...

Re: Offaly Senior B Hurling Championship 2023
A bit of everything. Three distinct Kelly families on the list, four sets of brothers (off the top of my head) and a father and son. Seven Kellys started. I think the record is eight (in 1986), something Shinrone equalled with the Clearys in recent years. I saw the Lusmagh panel listed online. From ...

Re: Offaly Senior A Hurling Championship 2023
Not necessarily. Only recent precedent is around a decade ago when Rhode won the Intermediate football, Shamrocks were still relegated and there were 11 Senior clubs the following year. But there was no relegation at the end of that year. Nothing in the competition regulations on the matter. Do clar...

Re: Offaly Senior B Hurling Championship 2023
First and foremost, Kilcormac were awesome yesterday. I’ve seen them a few times this year and there was nothing to suggest this performance was in them. They are presumably training with the Seniors. If so, it is evident that their training has ramped up in pace in recent weeks. A real urgency to t...

Previous semi-finals
This is just the fourth time Ferbane and Rhode were semi-final opponents, something that surprised me. The score in the previous three were:- In 1971, Ferbane were 0-8 to 0-7 winners In 1972, defending champions Ferbane were 1-14 to 1-9 winners Last year, they drew AET, Rhode 0-17 Ferbane 1-14, and ...

Re: Club football championship 2023
I imagine Gracefield top the group, and Clonbullogue play Ballycumber in a reconstituted quarter final. Ballycommon v Welsh Island is not affected. But that'd be a guess on my part. The value to Gracefield is they avoid Cappincur until the final. They could still get Clonbullogue in a semi-final, th...
