Re: Clubs in the doldrums

You can't make an omellete without breaking some eggs. A complete review is the first step required. The aim has to be get as many Daingean players onto the field. Even if they struggle to get the numbers it has to be the only option to improve the club. If the standard of these teams are poor and ...

Re: Clubs in the doldrums

Im not a football man so I can only take the example of Brosna Gaels, clearly a number of clubs joined together, a number of whom have the numbers to sustain their own club team, however they have sacrificed this in order to gain success. It is patently unfair on the other clubs in the county and c...

Re: Clubs in the doldrums

Just add my three cents here...what is the aim of joining clubs together? If the aim is to give players an opportunity to play that they wouldnt otherwise have then it is a good idea...what appears to be happening at the moment is that clubs who for whatever reason are not currently competing at th...

Re: Clubs in the doldrums

How is St. Vincents underage killing Daingean football? This I really want to know the answer for? Daingean football was killed because it was not thought properly in the primary school for many a year. I'd say wherever you went to school English was not taught very well I'd say, wherever you went ...

Re: Clubs in the doldrums

What i mean is that this does not happen in too many other counties only Offaly. Many rural clubs in other counties can barely scrap together a team yet the last thing they would do is join up with another club. Most clubs throughout the country have their underage structure as part of the club but...

Re: Clubs in the doldrums

The bastardised system is doing no one any good. No other county has such an underage system and when I discuss the structure with other county men they can't understand it. Daingean school has approx 30 boys for each underage category. Daingean should concentrate on keeping these lads in the game ...

Re: Time for an Offaly GAA Merchandise Shop in O'Connor Park

Also on big match days where you might concievably sell some gear, you dont have the freedom to go between the terraces and stand, so thats ruling out about half (at least) of the potential customers. Every club jersey should be on sale? The county board has no input what so ever into the purchase o...

Re: Time for an Offaly GAA Merchandise Shop in O'Connor Park

I dont think you are being realistic lads. A sports shop in O Connor park? Go down the town and ask the sports shops how much Offaly/Gaa merchandise they sell? Its not feasible. Would you take a staduim tour of O Connor park and buy merchandise at the end? Get real lads. Letting elveries or preferab...

Re: Offaly v Kilkenny '07 - John McIntyre on ref intimidatio

and of course Cody (and other Kilkenny officials and backroom staff - eg physical trainer Dempsey) has been in the papers the last few weeks basically setting the tone for the hurling final. he does it every year coming up to a big game. maybe if he came out and said that the referee should impleme...

Re: What lessons can Offaly learn from Donegal?

These award ceremonies that are held every year to present the players of the years etc? Do those cost money or are they fund raisers? Also the celebration of past teams? Do they cost money or are they fund raising missions? Also, county boards are spending money on "physios" that are not ...

Re: What lessons can Offaly learn from Donegal?

First of all, I agree with most of what your saying Ahlethimoutwithit, but on you point about the players not getting mileage, your taking it out of context. that point was used to reiterate a different point, it wasnt just thrown out there. And I know for a fact that its not being exaggerated. On y...

Re: What lessons can Offaly learn from Donegal?

Its important to note that Donegals Jim McGuinness commands respect.......he's just one of those guys that does. This automatically means he'll get more out of his players and if anybody screws about he can get rid of them and there will be no revolt. We on the other hand have appointed a virtual n...
