Re: Offaly Hurling 2021

In the big, important games that Offaly have played against Kerry and Carlow in recent years, we've fallen short. It was definitely the case that in last year's draw against Antrim, Offaly were the better team for the bulk of the game and then got nabbed with two late goals - the same argument could...

Re: Club Managements

Both Ballinamere and Durrow have made huge strides in recent years, and it's great to see. It's a well-populated area, more than sufficient to play both sports at a very high level, and while they have a lot of natural advantages, they've used them well - not every club does, or would. I would stop ...

Colm is chairman of the GAA’s Community Development, Urban and Rural committee. It's an appointed role.

Re: Standard of Senior club hurling in Offaly

It is possible to predict things, and still not to want them to happen. I don't enjoy modern hurling nearly as much as I did the game of 2000-2010, when it was absolutely phenomenal - but that doesn't mean it's ever going back there. That's not how sport works. I agree with Tmacmahon in his prognost...

Re: Standard of Senior club hurling in Offaly

I tend to take in about a half a dozen Galway SHC games first hand every year for working reasons, aside from a random selection of others all around the country, and unfortunately I'd have to concur with a lot of this. I was at Sarsfields vs Castlegar yesterday, and it's not that anything would blo...

Re: Senior A and B Hurling Championships 2020

Lumcloon itself would be in Rynagh's territory, but I'd be stunned if there wasn't a decent proportion of the children in the school who come in from Kilcormac parish. It's not a massive school or anything, but it wouldn't be as simple as just putting all the pupils into the Rynaghs bracket. Likewis...

Re: Covid-19 & Championship-20

The thing about people's health is that it's a multi-faceted thing, much like the well known Maslow heirarchy of needs. First and foremost, you have to be alive, and then there's a sliding scale after that. Perhaps it's just because of my own personal situation (cut down to very little work, the wor...

Re: A challenge!

One from Offaly football all time, one from the players I've seen live only (and by that I mean from the age where I was old enough to have some clue what was going on, so we'll say 89 onwards, that sort of vicinity. This gets very tricky actually - taking the all-time one, midfield should be simple...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2020

That was a really hard one to take, I can't imagine how devastated the players must feel right now. Defended brilliantly for 76 minutes, maybe with one or two needless frees conceded, and you couldn't even fault them too much for McManus' goal as it was a brilliant finish from a tight angle. One bad...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2020

It'll be an interesting reflection of how we're seen by Antrim. If they perceive Kerry to be the easier opponent, they'll want to deny Offaly the win. If they think that Offaly (a Christy Ring team, and a team they beat in a crucial Joe McD game last year) are the softer touch, they'll travel down w...

Re: DIV 3 NFL predictions and general chit chat.

Shadow Cork team in the McGrath cup, probably around five first string lads. John Moloney injured, expected back during the league. Peter Cunningham is doing his obligatory tour of duty with the army, should be back for the summer but obviously wouldn't have any football played at that stage. Niall ...

Re: DIV 3 NFL predictions and general chit chat.

Shameless promotion of local fundraisers aside, I'd increase the margins in most of those games. Leitrim aren't as bad as their shocking FBD result suggested, but they are in big trouble and realistically, away to Derry should be far too much for them. If they can stay within five of Derry that woul...
