Re: Offaly Under 12 Hurling Championship

It's depressing to think Offaly's future stars are being made to go through the flawed underage club system in the county

Re: OFFALY UNDER 21 HURLING

Westmeath will be gutted they had targetted this game all year, playing their Under 21s in so many league and the Leinster round robin championship games. After that bunch of players, Westmeath have very poor squads at underage hurling. they are slipping quickly at underage hurling and need serious ...

Re: Offaly Under 12 Hurling Championship

How're ya doing, Kevin? The U12 championship was discontinued following 2010. In its place is run a series of games, competitions and blitzes under the 'Go Games' concept which concentrate on the participation element as opposed to the competition element of the games. If I recall correctly the clu...

Re: Offaly Under 12 Hurling Championship

considering how much money is being given to Casement Park and Parc Uí Chaoimh, you'd think the GAA could give money to clear the debt on O'Connor Park (considering how much use it gets) so the county board can put money into developing a training centre with loads of pitches and other facilities

Re: Offaly Under 12 Hurling Championship

ridiculous that they are still playing stand alone games at under 12. no wonder clubs don't travel.
get 4 clubs to one venue, the players get at least 3 games.

Re: Un Cambio Es Bueno

not necessarily

if a club has a delegate, that should be their ONLY job.
but they must attend club meetings and be able to stand up and communicate at a big meeting.
if club officers have to go to every meeting they soon get burned out. I've been there.

Re: Offaly Under 12 Hurling Championship

When you are training kids, try and spend as much time playing games. 4 v4 or 5 v 5 is ideal. Or skills in games format. You want to increase the touches, time on the ball, decision making and outcomes Here's something interesting I recently read... Compared to an 8v8 game the data was as follows fo...

Re: Un Cambio Es Bueno

Unless change comes from within an organisation then the prevailing culture within that association will continue and those involved will row against the new changes Its the same for any a business b school c team d club hiring and administrator will be a waste of time unless there is a plan for the...

Re: Strength And Conditioning

JBM is very wily manager and always has his teams well prepared.
They are only coming to the peak of their powers with the squad they have.
He really gets the best out of the players available.

Could you say the same about Offaly?
ie maximising resources.

Re: Drills

Its common enough knowledge. Most speed is developed in two spurts when growing. Ages 7-9 (approx) it is all about speed of feet - how quick you can move going forward, side, turning. So all that can be taught with simple ladders and restricted stride length drills eg as many foot strikes in 5metres...

Re: Strength And Conditioning

I've posted elsewhere about needs to be done to get a simple dedicated facility for county teams. once you have the facility, then courses can be run for club coaches to come in and see how simple things can be applied to teams from under 16 up you can screen players from underage county panels and ...

Re: Brian Carroll wants more investment in training faciliti

Would be easy enough to get an empty industrial unit around the town (plenty of them!) and kit it with strength and conditioning equipment. One the equipment is bought, it is there for the next 20 years (if looked after) Hire an extra games development officer to do coaching in schools and with coun...

Re: A trip down memory lane - 2003

Why doesn't the county board just secure an empty commercial or industrial unit in the town from a sympathetic local owner and kit it out with gym equipment for use by the squads or groups of players? Plenty of places empty. It doesn't need to be fancy, just in place and available for use. If player...
