Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

And yet Westmeath beat Wexford in a game of consequence last year. We certainly aren't on those teams level at the moment but we will be with time. As great a win as it was, Wexford had built up a 17 point lead in that game, which is a pointer to the gap that exists. The freak part of the game was ...

Someone's on the weed again.
While Down were a disappointment in the the Tailteann final, I think they are on an upward trajectory.

The Summer of ’98 podcasts - Michael Foley

I've been listening to most of these episodes and I'd highly recommend them. Michael Foley recalls in great detail the events of a truly memorable summer. To this day there has never been a hurling championship like it for controversies, plot twists, and chaos. It fully warrants the running time as ...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

"There is nothing to be learned from playing Galway again" - There is plenty to be learned. This is a Mulligan for Offaly. Analyse the 55 minutes from Sunday, try to correct the mistakes and then get a better scoreline next time. "The result was a foregone conclusion" - It was a ...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

Under the circumstances a refixture is the only fair outcome. Galway may claim they had their noses in front, but the recent passing of Johnny Flaherty should remind us that Offaly closed out the 1981 All Ireland final with 1-6 unanswered. In 1981 Galway were the defending All Ireland champions and ...

Re: Offaly Senior Footballers 2024

Offaly could have seen it out comfortably. The game turned in that second half lull where Offaly had lots of ball but showed less urgency. But remember, if winning was that important, we wouldn't have seen so many subs. It's pre-season where it's important to give lots of players game time. The posi...

It's very easy to be cynical about these things, but this money will be a great boost to my newly formed club, "Turf Rovers" which is just a week old.

Re: Shane Dooley Retirement

It's more of a surprise that Shane lasted this long before retiring, as he had a lot of injury problems in recent years. Shane was a great finisher when he got a sniff of goals, accurate as well and could pick off points from tight angles. In many games, his was the vital score to keep Offaly alive ...

Re: Offaly Senior Footballers 2024

Most years Div 3 has: a) a Div 1/2 standard team, briefly lapsing into D3 - Kildare 2016, Armagh in 2017/18, Cork in 2020. b) a newly promoted Div 4 team, shooting upwards that will breeze through - Leix 2019, Derry in 2021, Louth in 2022, Cavan in 2023. In 2024, I don't see any team that are level ...
