Re: Offaly Hurling 2020

Just on this. Having been at both games, I believe they took more or less a similar trend. Dublin led for much of the quarter-final, at times it seemed like Offaly were on the verge of being tipped off the edge, but they kept battling, stuck to the plan and came with a late run of scores to force ex...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2020

They won't be too bad. Enjoyed a win over Dublin, which is a serious scalp to take at Minor level. And Westmeath will see it as a great chance to reach the Leinster Minor hurling final. Westmeath v Offaly is a local derby for Westmeath, but not for Offaly. Westmeath are at home, so the pressure is o...

Re: The offaly way.

Ah, it was 'the other crowd' who drafted that document, so it doesn't count. Was there not a huge level of work done on this a number of years ago in both hurling and football. I remember a large group involved in hurling from which that famous document was sat on shelf for over a year. From footbal...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2020

407 hurlers named. If we suppose there are 10 hurling counties (I know you could say there are 12 or 14, but for arguments sake), that's an average of 40 hurlers per county. And our crowd have 5. This list comes out on a pdf every year. It would be great to get it on excel to do some sorting. Like, ...

The phrase 'irreconcilable differences' springs to mind.

Re: The offaly way.

While I look forward to seeing how the process will play out, I can’t help thinking the flat earthers will be sharpening their pencils and writing their letters. Their wish lists will include: A return to old fashioned ‘catch and kick’ football and an end to handpassing; A return to ‘ground hurling’...

Re: Severe lack of Offaly O’Neills Gear on website

Its not as simple as sticking on a crest. It kinda is. Stitching the crest and sponsor. Jerseys ate different. I’m on about leisurewear. Most counties have above 55, 60 items on their pages. Donegal have 109. A good few have more than 70. We’ve 36, including face masks and teddy bears! The Lusmagh ...

Re: Offaly V Kildare 2nd round of LSFC

Obviously this year is a write off. You did indeed say it was very poorly ran until this year which gave me the impression that was no longer the case and I was all agog to hear details of the good news! In regards to the county board, I didn't say they have improved as this is a non year. I said it...

Re: Offaly V Kildare 2nd round of LSFC

Look at John Connellan's letter. Between 2010 and 2014, Dublin received €270.70 per club registered player in coaching and games development funding. In comparison, Mayo GAA received €22.30 per club registered player, Tyrone received €21 and Kerry received €19. There is no equity or fairness in that...

Re: Offaly V Kildare 2nd round of LSFC

Sadly the gap in Leinster is only going to widen in the foreseeable future as the effect of the financial doping of the last decade takes hold. There are lads on that team last night that I've never heard of with no adverse effect on Dublin, proving this isn't cyclical, it's permanent. Dublin are sk...

Statistically speaking

Looking back on last Saturday’s semi-final defeat, Offaly lost because, though they created far more scoring chances than the opposition, they took fewer of them. (Figures based on the 70 minutes of normal time, for comparison purposes.) On Saturday, Offaly scored 1-16, hit 18 wides, dropped 2 into ...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2020

As far as I can make out, included in the nine who didn't travel last Saturday are Conor Langton and Joey Keenaghan (both of whom travel tomorrow), while Shinrone are sending well wishes to Michael (presumably Cleary), Killian (presumably Sampson) and Éamonn (presumably Cleary) who are on the panel,...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2020

That's an interesting development. I wonder were the Offaly management expecting Derry to play with just five forwards, and so picked just two who would be recognised full-back line personnel, but now revert to an orthodox formation on Saturday, expecting the hosts to line out with six forwards? I h...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2020

Thanks for that, S. Just on the venue. Derry were due to be at home to Offaly due to being first out of the hat, but as there were >130 miles between the counties, it reverted to a neutral venue. I presume there was a bias towards Derry as they 'lost' their home fixture, leaving Offaly with a longer...
