Gallen Match.
Unfortunately the well ran dry on Saturday in Navan. Not a surprise, but still a disappointment all the same. The report is below, but there are a few points I've left out which do seem pertinant. (i) Why play a challenge game on the Thursday?!? The lads were clearly a bit sluggish from the off. Sec...

Aughrim
I do know where Aughrim is - I've been there on a few occasions, and I've been to Carrickcruppen and Kilmoyley before as well. That's hardly the point - the point is that these places are no bigger/smaller than several of the towns in Offaly that you're saying are too small to host games. Anyway, th...

Froggy
This is going to come across as facetious, but I assure you it's not meant to be - but if experience were the only criterion, we'd bring back Paddy McCormack. Over the last two years Cathal has been slow, he's looked out of his depth on the 45, and he doesn't get the hand in enough to spoil good cor...

Finding Pitches
This weekend alone there are league matches on in Carrickmore, Ballycran, Kilmoyley, Carrickcruppen, Newcastle and Aughrim, none of which would be the easiest in the world to find - the point is if you're interested, everyone has a road map. Incidentally, I'd say finding a village is easier than fin...

Offaly.
Exactly - Ferbane are the embodiment of thick and thin, an inspiration to all clubs. The best in 1971, when Offaly won their first ever All Ireland, and kept things going even when the Claras and Rhodes of this world were weak and not providing the county with a strong club basis.

Last School standing!
Banagher bit the dust a week ago, and Birr met their demise on Sunday, which leaves just one Offaly School with their senior team involved in any competitions - Gallen. Definitely this Saturday is a huge step up for them on anything they've done so far - taking on the dominant team in Ulster for yea...

Ferbane
I can see what you're talking about. You want to promote the game in weak areas such as Shannonbridge, but you don't want to go all the way over, so you go as far as you can with safety. That it happens to be in the most successful club in Offaly football since the county has been a national power i...

Deehan
Yeah, I'd say it's just match fitness at this stage.
He'll be some boost if he can get back to sharpness though. The more I look at this game, the more I think that barring they eat us alive in Midfield, we should get through ok. Now all I need is a bookies office betting on the match.

Offaly 05
I think most people are coming to a conclusion along those lines. I never doubted Brady's ability to play centre back, it's his ability to not get sent off that worries me. Regarding Froggy, I have one question - on what form are you picking him over Keane in the backs? (Or Casey, or Rafferty for th...

Clara
For any match where there isn't enough room to park in the petrol station, I think we're all agreed no-one wants to see anything go on in Clara. :) For any kind of crowd, realistically it has to be Gracefield. The train station will take some pressure of, and there is a decent amount of room around ...

Clara
Clara will have to do something about the most pungent toilet "facilities" in all of GAA before getting naything. It was enough of a disgrace that they played the U-16 final there last year - that was too big for it.

Why are all these games in Tullamore?
Seriously, that ground is a wreck at the moment - understandably of course, but still. It can't be for capacity reasons, because club grounds would be well able to take the crowds, so I don't know why it is. We needed the stand for the Westmeath game, fair enough. But with three other home games - M...

Lies, Damn Lies, and Reasons for Being Bottom of the League
“The difference between American sports and European sports is simple: Americans go to a game and sing along with the announcers and cheerleaders, they have a beer, maybe a hot dog, or nachos, and generally eat drink and be merry. European sports fans couldn’t eat because their stomachs are tight wi...

One by one.
I don't know about a good place kicker being worth 4/5 per game, and it depends how much you sacrifice in open play. Also, you have to ask yourself who is this player? Who on the club scene is consistently kicking 45s and the like? John O'Neill? I say let Kelly have a go. It's not like we'll get cau...
