Re: Senior A Hurling 2019

Logic would dictate that the two quarter finals would be in Birr absolutely, and I don't know if it is the case or not that Shinrone were given the choice of playing at their opponents' home field or going to Tullamore, but if they were, I'd suggest they took the right option. Birr have a lot more h...

Re: Next Offaly Senior Hurling Manager

By all accounts Michael Fennelly will be at a SHC game today. Where do we expect him to rock up to? Rath for Kinnitty v Coolderry would be my guess as it’s the game with the most riding on it providing Kilcormac / Killoughey justify their heavy favouritism. He was in Clareen on Sunday along with To...

Re: Senior A Football 2019

I'd agree that four qualifiers out of eight should be enough. Bottom teams in each group into a relegation final and third place done for the year would incentivise finishing as high up the table as possible, and to me that would be the way to go all right. That would still will be an issue for thi...

Re: Senior A Football 2019

Lone shark i think the problem is that you can be knocked out by a team you havent played. If tullamore played shamrocks and were beaten then fair enough. I was at Shamrocks game and the biggest roar of the day was when word came through that Clara scored a goal. Suppose Tullamore won that game and...

That seems a little bit pointless?
Is the extra game the only benefit?
Pretty much, I'd say. Though I'm sure if you asked the clubs, and the county board finance committee, they'd say that's a significant benefit.

Re: Senior A Football 2019

Can anyone give a brief explanation as to what you mean by “criss-cross format”. It seems most unusual? Four teams drawn into group one, four teams drawn into group two. The clubs don't play the teams in their own group, they play the teams in the other group - so four rounds of games, and a league...

Re: Senior A Football 2019

So Tullamore into a Relegation Final with 2 wins from 4. Cappincur into Q/F with 0 wins from 4. Just bananas. Not ever remotely fair. Just one point on this, though I do agree there is some legitimacy to the view. If, instead of the criss cross format, the Offaly SFC was just two groups of four, an...

Re: Offaly v Sligo Round 2 Qualifier

Credit where it's due, that was decent. I remember coming out of the league game in Newry this year (still the only game in which this side was well-beaten) and thinking that while they made mistakes, they made mistakes trying to be positive, trying to do the right thing. They still make mistakes, b...

Re: Joe McDonagh cup

If we get a candidate like John Irwin or someone of the same calibre he should step aside. Why does he keep saying to contest him surely if someone like that is willing to go forward lone shark Tommy would step aside ??? I cannot speak for Tommy, but I honestly believe that if someone like that cam...

Re: Joe McDonagh cup

Tommy Byrne must go! There is always someone better to step in specially at this stage when we are literally on the ground. And again I will ask - what evidence have you to suggest that there is someone better? You can't just make a statement that goes against all evidence (the evidence being the l...

Re: Joe McDonagh cup

I can't, for the simple reason that the instruction from my editor was to either get all three, or leave it - and you can see why, because to give airtime to one and not to others would be seen as bias. When the other two declined, that was the end of the idea.

Re: Joe McDonagh cup

we will leave Tommy there in fairness to him hes doing a great job.. You don't think Tommy Byrne is a good chairman - we get it. There's no doubt that there are serious black marks on his tenure, and everyone (myself included) would like to see a contest for the position in November, that's a viewp...

Re: Offaly V Kerry JMCD cup - can we win this game?

Boom. Bye bye hurling. I'm absolutely gutted by that result, but I picked up a comment like this on twitter and I'm going to pick up this too. There is a lot more to Offaly hurling than the senior county team. It is important, but it is not everything. That's not to say that everything is okay, it ...

Re: Offaly V Kerry JMCD cup - can we win this game?

I find it hard to envisage a win here. Understandably, confidence is completely on the floor, the team hasn't won a meaningful game since the league match against Laois 16 months ago, and you could argue they haven't hurled well since the Kilkenny league quarter final a month after that. Fitness is ...

Re: Offaly v London Football Qualifiers

To be honest I'm not sure - I thought it was at home but I'm only repeating what I heard. It's entirely possible that it could yet be an away game I suppose.
