Re: Hurling to return to St Brendan's Park

In relation to Brian Gavin (and apologies for not getting back sooner but at least it helped reignite the discussion a bit), he simply and unexpectedly spoke very well in favour of returning hurling to Birr at a County Board meeting last week. It stirred debate on the floor which resulted in the Cou...

Re: Hurling to return to St Brendan's Park

Well said Brian Gavin last night!

Now that the County Board has shown positivity towards the return of hurling to its home in Birr it is very important that the opportunity is not missed.

A few very important weeks coming up for Offaly hurling both on and off the field.

Re: Hurling to return to St Brendan's Park

Contrary to the out of date and misleading thread stating 'Hurling to stay in Tullamore' I am compelled (and happy) to report that the Co Board Management Committee's 'proposal' that club senior hurling finals and National Hurling league fixtures be played in Tullamore in the future, with a possible...

Re: Hurling to return to St Brendan's Park

LS - (Your final point? :o I doubt it!) The Birr ‘case’ is far from being ‘hidden behind a whole load of regulation’ as you claim it to be. However, and I repeat, there is no cause for anyone to make any case until there are official moves to try to move hurling permanently to Tullamore in the same ...

Re: Hurling to return to St Brendan's Park

by Lone Shark on Thu Jul 07, 2011 2:31 pm This is not about the county final, alone. This is about the vast bulk of Offaly hurling matches by Lone Shark on Fri Jul 08, 2011 5:54 am I never said that the vast bulk of games was. You are not making this easy for me. It WAS misleading to state that it ...

Re: Hurling to return to St Brendan's Park

LS - It is completely misleading to suggest that the vast bulk of Offaly hurling matches are currently played in OCP nor would they ever be in Birr either. As for the cost of training, only around 20% of training sessions are actually held in OCP, something that can continue on into the future anywa...

Re: Hurling to return to St Brendan's Park

POTH – There was no ‘begging’ letter sent to the County Board. It is my understanding that an initial request was made to play the game in Birr prior to any fixture. The letter was expressing their disappointment at not being granted their wishes. In fact there was very little about the letter until...

Re: Hurling to return to St Brendan's Park

LS - It is very presumptuous but more importantly incorrect to claim that people didn’t expect the County Finals in Tullamore to get ‘such big crowds’ as you call them. It was no surprise to see an improved attendance for the first final in 2007 when you consider the pairings involved, the large sup...

Re: Hurling to return to St Brendan's Park

Thank you LS, delighted to be on board....... Is is certainly not disingenuous of the Birr delegates or anyone else to refer to the written request to temporarily move matches to Tullamore. Surely the reason to minute meetings is to decipher fact from perception? The accurate recording of actual pro...

Re: Hurling to return to St Brendan's Park

LS - Firstly, sorry if the element of tongue in cheek in my post was not clear enough. Anyway, I do believe that there is more substance to my post than 'because the Birr delegates said so'. I note that you failed to comment on the directive from Croke Park. Do you not believe this exists or do you ...

Hurling to return to St Brendan's Park

It's great to hear that the recent debate over whether or not the County Hurling Finals or Inter County matches should or would return to Birr was finally put to bed at the County board meeting last night. The Birr delegates reported, following on from their long standing minuted request to temporar...
