Re: Offaly u20 2021

I'm not saying for a second that I think it should be in Croke Park as part of a double header, but that's the plan from what I can tell. Plans change, of course.

Re: Offaly u20 2021

The likelihood is that the final will be in Croke Park before one of the two semi-finals, which is Mayo vs Dublin (Saturday the 14th, 6pm) and Tyrone vs Kerry (Sunday the 15th, 3.30pm). I'm not sure what the criteria will be for deciding which game. If it's Offaly vs Roscommon, they might say that t...

Re: Offaly vs Louth 2021 Leinster Football Championship

A gritty performance by Offaly. The guys stood up in the heat of battle. The crazy decision to play a league final last weekend nearly cost us and it will make things very difficult next weekend, after having to play extra time and being out four weekends in a row. Still there is a lot to be proud ...

Re: Div 3 South predictions & general comment

Saturday didn't turn out the way I thought it would, but I still drove home from Croke Park feeling like it was better to play the game than not. It's not accurate to say that I felt better about our chances of beating Louth than I did at 4.30pm, but I would be fairly convinced that we're better for...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2021

Division One is being redrawn next year, so Offaly will replace the loser of Westmeath and Laois, and then the groups will be remade with three from each side in each division. On that point, it is yet more evidence of how a logical system that was working well can get thrown out when a "traditional...

Re: Div 3 South predictions & general comment

After mentioning 2007 NFL, i decided to look up the results and I noticed the Longford v offaly game was declared null and points were awarded to Longford. Rings a bell but why did that happened? https://www.rte.ie/sport/football/2007/0308/215299-caseyk/#:~:text=The%20GAA's%20Competition%20Control%...

Re: Div 3 South predictions & general comment

I only got the Twitter updates. It looked like the frees kept Limerick in touch when Offaly had a slight advantage in the 2nd half. Limerick got 5 points from frees and Offaly got zero. Did Offaly commit fouls in fear of Limerick getting in for a goal? In general, and this is to Offaly's credit, th...

Re: Div 3 South predictions & general comment

Good win today. thought the performance last week was pretty good, tackling was of a high enough quality but when run at we seem to develop more holes than a teabag, parting like the red sea. When we get hands in we have displayed a good habit of foraging turnovers and that is down to the coaching ...

Re: Div 3 South predictions & general comment

Not sure I'd agree with the assessment of the forward line as not high scoring. Anton will get up and down the field but he's well able to chip in with scores as well, (though I really hope this is the year when he finally studies the data for what happens when he takes men on, or shoots from close ...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2021

Not at all Frank, it's a fair observation and is taken as such - I only saw reports and highlights, which obviously gives me a far less clear picture. It's also something of a talking point in Clare, in that they look on it as a bit of a Robert Frost moment for the two counties. If your feeling is t...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2021

Clare when running properly would beat offaly comfortable enough. There's no doubt that Clare are misfiring spectacularly at the moment. You could make a case for saying that Tony Kelly is the best hurler in Ireland, and they have plenty of talent around him. Look at the teams from the Munster U-21...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2021

For what it's worth, my point was not that as of now, we're fit to take on Clare, Wexford, Dublin etc. There was a post suggesting that we're not ready for D1 yet, and my response was that if we're good enough to beat Kerry and Carlow, then clearly we've improved - and in that situation, then we're ...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2021

In the big, important games that Offaly have played against Kerry and Carlow in recent years, we've fallen short. It was definitely the case that in last year's draw against Antrim, Offaly were the better team for the bulk of the game and then got nabbed with two late goals - the same argument could...

Re: Club Managements

Both Ballinamere and Durrow have made huge strides in recent years, and it's great to see. It's a well-populated area, more than sufficient to play both sports at a very high level, and while they have a lot of natural advantages, they've used them well - not every club does, or would. I would stop ...
