Re: Maughan & O' Malley / Dunne & Maher

I can see an increase in mental health issues post lockdown. It is and will be a very serious issue SearingDrive you are absolutely correct. We've heard non-stop for the last 10 years how important it is recognise signs in people who may be struggling and for people to not be afraid and speak up if...

Re: 50 years on, how Offaly won the 1971 All-Ireland final

Wonderful piece POTH, thanks for taking the time (considerable I'd say) to put this together.
What strikes me now is how young that team was back then. Lots of lads in their early 20's. I wonder would that have been unusual for the time or were young panels the thing back them?

Re: Johnny Pilkington

Ger Canning: What would an All Ireland win mean to Offaly? Johnny Pilkington: It would mean a hell of a lot of drinking Ger. Priceless. Honesty, spontaneity and a bit of cheeky humour. Can you imagine in 2021 if one of the body builders who masquerade as hurlers from Limerick, Waterford, Galway etc...

Brendan bulger over birr
Fair play to Brendan for volunteering his spare time to help out a club like this.
Volunteerism is the cornerstone of the GAA and always will be. Others would do well to follow his lead.

We need to talk about Leinster GAA

Isn't it great to see the minor hurlers progress in the Leinster hurling championship? These are meaningful games getting media coverage/streaming and are exactly what is required to develop these players. The prize now is a Leinster final against Kilkenny live on TV. Brilliant. I've argued here bef...

Re: Minor Football

Well that was brilliant stuff. I've already heard today that "pressure is off now and they can go out and enjoy the final and see how they get on". That shite does my head in. The pressure is absolutely on them now....100% it is. There is a final there to be won. For many it'll be the biggest game t...

Re: Should we stick with Michael Fennelly now?

Yes, as long as it's in an unpaid capacity as a GAA volunteer. If anything outside of mileage expenses is going on them absolutely no he should be gone. Our financial resources are not there to be squandered. My 96 year old granny could have managed our hurlers to 3rd place in division 2A and to a s...

Re: The offaly way.

While I too look forward to seeing how the process will play out, I can’t help thinking the modern game know all's will be sharpening their pencils and writing their letters. Their wish lists will include: Handpassing only. Any kicking or striking (depending on code) will result in serious punishmen...

Re: Severe lack of Offaly O’Neills Gear on website

Lads use the Christmas break to get up off yer arses, get in shape and make it onto one of the county panels in January (hurling or football........both if you are really good). You'll get as much county gear as you can handle then. Please don't respond with excuses..."oh I'm too fat", "oh I'm too o...

Offaly county board until this year has been very poorly ran.
Good to hear this. What areas this year have better do you think albeit with all the problems covid presented?
It needs to be monitored year by year so that same mistakes are not made.

Re: Offaly Hurling 2020

I believe as a county our humiliation is now complete. Not being able to win 2 games in the Christy Ring is realistically as low as it gets surely? As for Mick Fennelly? What he didn't know is that any man that signs up for the Offaly hot seat (and it is hot, very hot  ) effectively signs his ow...

Re: Offaly V Kildare 2nd round of LSFC

Hmmmmm. Kildare were shocking bad today. Totally aimless for the last 45 minutes of that Meath match. Offaly never realistically looked like winning last Sunday against what now turns out to be a poor outfit. Meath gobbled up the goal chances again today whereas our boys lost their wood when present...

Re: Offaly V Kildare 2nd round of LSFC

Size looks to be a potential issue which is all the more reason to spread out and run at them. Kildare haven't set the world alight in the league during the year and if this was in summer I'd be a lot more worried. The fact that it's in Portlaoise probably sealed Offalys faith. I'm going to do some ...

Re: Standard of Senior club hurling in Offaly

As we become more sophisticated with preparation and sports science we will see more and more set plays from general play . There will be more and more thought and choreography into each play and the off the cuff hurling will not be as prominent............. Stronger more athletic players who are t...
