Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

1. Absolutely not. And there was a 'helmet incident in the Clare Kilkenny semi-final (about 3/4 way through) and no red card was shown. 2. There'd be uproar. Referee would be accused of 'ruining the game'. 3. Because the penalty for 'ruining' a big game is no further promotion for the referee, no fu...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

Stick to the football, Hans. Reason Brian Carroll didn't play against Limerick in 2012 was because he concluded the Club All-Ireland campaign in Croke Park a week before. Sid wasn't manager. Brian Carroll didn't miss any Offaly matches because he was 'away'. I remember the Limerick game 2012 Away mi...

Re: Offaly Under 20s hurling 2024

Because some people think 2022 was his first year with Offaly. Getting excited about nothing really in fairness I think... He only told the truth. Can't be making public assumptions/declarations about ascending to the senior job in Offaly when there is a man in situ. Someone asked why didn't he stay...

Re: Offaly Under 20s hurling 2024

Howld on! What part of "Obviously I'm appointed for a three year term with the U20s. I'm officially Offaly U20 hurling manager next year." do ye not understand?

There's nothing to get excited about here.

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

Just a few random recollections from the 2008 to 2013 era: Joe Dooley, Benny and Pat McLoughney (God be good to Pat) had built a team with Rory and Murph in midfield, Carroll, Brady and Derek in the half-forward line and Shane, Joseph and Danny Currams inside. Beating Limerick against all the odds, ...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

The draw and replay with Galway was 2010. Followed the draw and extra time win over Antrim. 2011 was Dublin in Croke Park, left it too late to start hurling, then nearly caught them. And a qualifier in Pairc Uí Chaoimh that was lost by a point after hurling the shit out of the Corkies in the first h...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

Well, it’s been quite the few weeks for Offaly hurling. Trophies won, targets achieved, All-Ireland winners (in the case of the U20s), promotion for the Seniors, and more importantly a lot of hurlers developed, benefitting from matches against the top counties. Several stood up last Saturday, young ...

Re: Offaly Senior Footballers 2024

Hey, lookit. You can prove anything you want with statistics. How much of the 10-82 came in the Leinster semi-final? So if the problem is conceding heavily all year, well thats your perspective , take out the down game we conceded 76 points in 6 league games, (12.33 per game). Put tailteann in and y...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

I know what you’re saying. There was a judgment call to make. The other side of the coin is Louth. Six grass pitches, they used their pitches morning, noon and night, used them for couty team training, club league matches, the works. Their main pitch hardly had a blade of grass on it by Easter weeke...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

Just a small area, sufficient for doing a few drills but nowhere near big enough for even a small sided training game.

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

I'm guessing that was in the bad weather and they were doing ball work on the astro in Birr CS when grass pitches were in shyte.
pigeon house biffo wrote: Mon Jun 10, 2024 6:20 pm Seen a lot of talk about the hurlers training in birr community school at the start of the year, what was the point of that? Why not use the faithful fields?

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

I'm with you on the forensic analysis, Wing. I do want to single out Dan Bourke, whose work rate and productivity was outstanding. Again. And well done to everyone involved. Agreed on young King.....thought he was very good. Actually thought we could have done with him in midfield....but was content...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

A good outing? Not getting soaked. I will never forget the wetting I got in the corresponding fixture last year. Realistically it's going to be very difficult for the lads to refocus for this. And in the broader scheme of things I don't think it matters. Whats peoples thoughts on what would be a goo...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

Absolutely. Last year's hammering from Tipperary was never going to define them. The ones poo pooing it are those hurling snobs who think a match with a winning margin of >5 points is an abomination. The only thing I'll remember from that day is the wetting. The preliminary quarter finals were a sop...
