Re: Brian Cowen's legacy of failure as Taoiseach

Sorry lads - have to get this off me chest .... The real elephant in the rule is the fact that FF and FG are doctrinally speaking , one and the same as each other. They are the modern day manifestation of the two factions formed at the foundation of the state which are of little or no relevance to t...

Re: Interesting Reading From the Tullamore Tribune

quote="offalyman08" in regards the effort by some players? well over the past few years i think SOME of the footballers effort was certainly questionable but they appeared to try a lot harder this year. But as for the hurlers i cant honestly say ive never seen them put in less than 100%. ....

Re: Interesting Reading From the Tullamore Tribune

Some the comments about Ger are way off the mark.. Having given his all to the course for over 12 years it’s amazing how short people’s minds are. I can’t recall a time when I’ve watched Ger and thought ‘ that lad doesn’t want to know about it’ or ‘ that lads coasting’. A more committed member of th...

Re: Oakley and Mullins retire

Oakley was a great servant to the county through good days or bad. He never gave anything less than his utmost on the field and I don't ever remember him ever taking a backward step in any game. His finest hour was probably the 2000 All Ireland semi final against Cork, resorting at one stage to bloc...

Re: Kilcormac lodge an objection to semi-final fiasco

Outrageous.

Why could this not have been done the Monday after the game?

Utterly disruptive to the finalists that this has surfaced so late and smacks of real bad taste. Removes whatever goodwill and sympathy would have been due to them otherwise.

Re: Your best club hurler that never played for the county

I happily stand corrected True Red.

I’ll plead my hedonistic summers spent the far side of the Atlantic around 97/98/99 in my defence, but not knowing 2000 is inexcusable …

I think you'll agree that Cillian could have been a real star of that era has he been reared in Birr or Banagher.

Re: Your best club hurler that never played for the county

From recollection, P.J. Martin played in the semi of 88 v Galway. Christopher Flanagan definitely comes to mind. Cillian Farrell of Edenderry dominated the B division of underage hurling but from memory only got run-outs in the league for the county. John Troy of KK was a good target man on the Mino...

Re: Croke Park Presentation

Well done to GAA , and its corporate partner, RTE on depriving us a stirring rendition of ‘Galtee Mountain Boy’ by Pat Kirwick immediately following the presentation . Check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BQlrrIr8uA The man should have written himself into GAA folklore alongside Joe Mc Donag...

Re: Shane Daly R.I.P

Awful news. Shane was a very decent fella who would always acknowledge you when he was out and about. He was a committed player on the field and not afraid to get stuck in with the bigger lads for a man who was quite light and lean. No way of rationalising things like this when that happens or in th...

Re: Offaly vs. Clare Football Qualifier Round 1 26/06/2010

Listening to Pat Phelan(I think) and Laz Molloy doing the commentary was priceless stuff altogether. Laz could be heard bellowing out words of encouragement when an Offalyman had a sniff of a chance. I couldn’t figure out whether it was Laz or some taepot in the box with them but it was quality list...

Also god to see 133 replies on achieving a draw, and 49 on a 29 point beating.. hurling was finished and no one wanted to discuss it, then ye get a draw and everyone comments! are ye covering over the cracks?! Them Wexford lads know all about 'covering over of cracks' judging by the outstanding perf...
